reported in Fast Bikes, there's a recall on the new blades due to the speedo reading 25% lower than it should......

If you believe anything in that bog-roll replacement of a mag then you're a bigger mug than I though

I keep my copy in the toilet, just in case I run out of bog-roll

I tend not to believe any of the biking press these days, they all talk shite...

it's true! Got a mate who had the first (or second) black blade in the country (better talk to Kitty about that one!) and his speedo went within a week. That was about two months ago.

Honda UK were not very helpful to say the least. Took over 10 days to resolve the issue, and no courtesy bike. P1ss poor service if you ask me...

I was at my local Honda dealer on the weekend looking at the new Blade and I asked about the recall. The rep said that the fault occurred only when riders started the bike and immediately fiddled with the buttons on the digital display. Starting the bike kicks on the digital display, which runs a few tests, and fiddling with it during this process causes the speedo error.

He said it therefore only happened in a "small number" of cases, but that Honda decided to "do the right thing by the customer and initiate a formal recall".

hmmmm

This was the subject of a topic a while back - the Fireblade does indeed have a re-call, the fault only affects a few machines & you can test if yours is faulty very easily.

More difficult is finding a dealer who wants to do the work!!

Sorry to sabotage the threat for a moment, but Kitty - where did you buy your Blade? I looked at a new Blade last weekend (going out for a demo ride on Saturday) and they said they are struggling to get black (one customer having waited 14 weeks). They did however say that they could get me a tri-colour within 3-4 weeks. Their demo is a tri-colour and I have to say it looks stunning in the flesh (very distinctive), but much less so in photos.

Don't mind a bit Gixx - got mine from Malcom @ Dobles in Croydon.

I could get the recall work done there but it means taking a day off work as it is the opposite direction to work - the dealer I phoned went into a rant about losing customers who go to other dealers to buy bikes and then 'expect' work to be carried out with him - what a cock!! he never 'lost' me as a customer in the first place cos I never knew he was there until I called the Honda Customer Care team to find alternative dealers in the area to carry out the work..... anyway he has definately 'lost' any future custom now!! knobber!!

Here endeth the 'rant of the day'

don't know what he's bitching about, Dealers get paid for warranty work anyway... (it might be slightly less than their stupid hourly service rates though...)

Well his whole attitude got my back up from the start... he did that 'pretend I don't know what you are talking about' thing to begin with..... wandering off & shouting to his mate that he had 'some woman on the phone with a Honda recall on a bike that wasn't affected & he didn't understand me' - his pal explained that it was precautionary (overheard in background). Then he did the 'we're booked up for 6 weeks' thing - told him it wasn't urgent & that I'd fit in with his schedule as it was easier for me cos it's down the road from work.... he still wasn't happy & started moaning about losing customers to Bridge at Andover.... he then said where did you buy it? I told him Dobles & he said 'Ahhh Dobles down the road' errrr like when has Haslemere been 'down the road' from Croydon?? I said I'd get back to him, which obviously I won't!!

The thing that amazes me is that there is so little money to be made in servicing & good work is rewarded by loyalty - that this monkey was literally throwing away future business with his attitude - anyway - recall yes, err what time/day/week is it?

There's a Dobles in Coulsdon, which is kinda down the road, but not 5 mins away. Regardless, if he can't work out why people go elsewhere before to long it will cease to be a problem and rightly so with that lousy attitude. Without exception every Honda place I've been has had a great attitude so far, even though I've yet to buy one of their bikes.

Steve.

Hey Steve, Dobles are ok, they are where I bought the bike from - was trying to find somewhere nearer to do the warranty work. It was the Haslemere dealer that was being a champion knobjockey.....

gixxer,
I finally managed to collect my new blade(red/black)last weekend,I'd been told that the recall had delayed it.I'd been giving the dealer & Honda a bit of stick, especially as I'd had to travel to find one.My normal dealer was quoting July/August,also hard work to get a'deal'aswell.Anyhow I've gone from a GSXR1000k1 that I'd owned for 3 years to this, first impressions are that it hasn't got the bottom end pull of the Suzuki, but the brakes, riding position(for me anyway)& steering are an improvement. Not sure about the rear suspension yet.

Cheers for the info 2GOOD. I was supposed to be test riding the blade in an hour, but the weather is conspiring against me as it's just started peeing down. I don't have a problem riding in the rain, but don't particularly fancy test riding a new bike in it - at least not a Fireblade! I'll try to reschedule for tomorrow.

My Blade was I believe the first to have this problem. I Picked the bike up on 22nd April and the speedo problem occurred within a week. I took it back to the dealer immediately and the reason it took 10 days to sort out is that Honda were not aware of the problem so they had to run a few tests with the dealer to establish the fault.....as a result I had a new speedo and it has been fine since then.....

As for a lack of Black Blades may be I was lucky when I bought mine as I had the choice of the 3 clours to choose from as they were standing side by side in my dealers wharehouse....
