yes regretfully the real world seems to be full of a
holes who don't have any idea how to conduct themselves these days, or the concept of an auction it seems.N.
The significant number of idiots on ebay plus the trading rules are now making it far too easy to ruin the buying / selling experience.
Yeah
Let's get sensible about this rather than call people nob or a
hole after all I just answered a question
If you advertise something and you know it's worth a grand you ain't gonna let it go for £500
So what about a reserve or higher starting price? Well eBay charge you for that fact.
So your option is manipulate the sale, pull the auction or pay eBay more money (on top of the 10% final value fee)
You might not like it but that's what happens (in the real world)

I disagree that it happens in 'the real world'. That's the wrong description IMHO. It happens in cases where people don't play by the rules. It is questionable ethics/moral compass. When selling on eBay I am more worried about being scammed than I am about the selling price. If you put goods in a real auction you can't run to the front and grab your items if the selling price is too low.
I treat eBay like a true auction OR as a classified advert. If more people played by the rules then eBay would be a much better place. Name calling isn't fair though.

Yep Thats the point and maybe it reflects some peoples view of the real world! I treat eBay like a true auction OR as a classified advert. If more people played by the rules then eBay would be a much better place. Name calling isn't fair though.
Others on here seem to have the view that the real world is a world where they can draw up the rules to suit themselves. So not withstanding that you should be happy that you can access a site to give you world advertising coverage, the real issue for some is that they aren't happy paying a company for that advertising access and they wish to corrupt the way they do business by not playing to the rules of the site because they want something for nothing!
Rather than being in the real world I fear that it actually highlights some peoples own morals in the real world. I am happy with mine. others seem to be more take take take. Its a shame that the real world is becoming more like that.

...but the other trouble with eBay (Amongst the many) - is that after you've sold your item for rock bloody bottom price...that's when the floods of emails come in that say............. "Oh no, I forgot, or oh no I was busy and meant to bid, that looked like a real bargain, if the sale falls through will you let me know?"
That really annoys me I have to say. Often thought that they should offer a longer than 10 day period for auctions as well which might give a extra weekend for those that never seem to have time to drive for an hour to look at a £15k car. I'm ranting...I'll go....

There does seem to be a whole group of society who simply don't understand that things need to be paid for. Anyway, at the moment the group who are severly pissing me off on EBay are Yorkshirmen. I've not yet found one who once you've won the auction of their item tries to get you to complete away from Paypal etc so they can avoid the fees and when you say you can't they up the postage by that amount.
It's nice to see them getting back to their roots but they were easier to deal with when they were all bleaching their hair and driving around in RR Sports.

One of the sides to my business is retail facing and I can tell you that those types of people were never going to bid. There are enormous numbers of weirdos who spend their time genuinely thinking they were up for buying something and not understanding why they never did. These people have some kind of problem but take up so much time pretending to be players it is frightening. That really annoys me I have to say. Ebay as become a joke
what people don't understand is its an auction site not a boot sale.
