Thinking of an S

Evening all, I'm getting back into TVRs. We had a black 390SE for a while, we sadly sold it to a fella in Australia, I couldn't fit int the boot to go with it. Anyway we've sold our old Ford classic and I'm going to buy another TVR and keep it this time. So I'm looking at Chimies, Wedges and S's.
Tell me the great thing about an S. what to look for - chassis etc. also if anyone knows of any for sale in the central belt of Scotland. I want a legal turn key and use kinda car.

If you look at the classified for the S Series at the moment, you,ll get a wedgie, Chimey and S all at the same time! Most will say the "S" is back to basics and many still wish they hadn't traded up. The V6 is great for a V8 impression with great noise, pops on overrun etc (I miss that). The V8 is one loud fat sound in comparison with brutal acceleration especially between gears (but sadly no pops and bangs for me). Both are very rewarding in slightly different ways, but all put a smile on your face (unless of course you have chassis rot). Buy a good one with a solid chassis, preferably one thats been attended to professionally or by a passionate enthusiast. Also make sure you don't buy one with cracked indicators at the front as they are a bugger to replace. Probably a good time to buy too....

On the drive past the first one up is a Chim, the others are V6's & a couple of V8's. Even with cr*p sound quality they still souind great.

My TVR ownership has been S2, then 4.0 Chim, then another S2 before settling with my current S2 (yes, my 3rd S).
Chim's can offer great value for money but the cheaper ones will usually need some money spent on them which should already have been spent on a similarly priced S. My first S and Chim were my everyday cars and the Chim was much better for that purpose.
The Chim's are more refined and have the bigger engines than an S but I prefer the "go kart" feel of the S and as weekend car it ticks all my boxes.
Wedges can offer a lot of performance per £ but their styling is like marmite - love it or hate it.
When I returned to S ownership the V8S still carried quite a price premium but not so much now so one of those could be a good compromise for you.
Best to try a couple of each and see which you prefer

You are right about the wedge styling. But the looks I used to get, the "rev it up mate" and the black snout poking out the garage door always had folk asking what it was, as its very 80's. But I do love the retro look of the S's.
It's snowing heavy at present so fingers crossed its melted by Sunday to look at this S2 I'm going to see.
As for the Chim, it just seems like the next step after a wedge.

just a lot.I had a 350i for a few years, before the wife suggested we upgrade to something with better brakes, I loved it. Best option for me at that time (10 years ago) was the V8S. It's a very different drive to the Wedge.
The Wegde felt always very solid, but was unforgiving when it did 'let go'. The S is lighter, nimbler and as such a much more predictable drive. It certainly feels more of a 'roller skate' ride compared to the Wedge, and a more 'fun' drive. I've ony been a passenger in a Chimaera - it did give me more of a sense of the 'solid' Wedge feel.
