I have seen what looks like a nice US import that is in the country:

http://www.classiccarriageco.com/1969triumphtr6.ht...

(not seen in person)

how ever it looks to have a very nasty hood and an electric issue.

nice versions go for £12k+ and this is 1/2 that.

Could an electrical issue and hood really cost that much or could I get a bargain?

Obviously I would like to see if the engine actually turns over by hand to make sure that is not FUBAR'D as its not like I can tell without starting it.

LHD US-spec carb cars don't sell for 12k over here. That doesn't seem like a bargain to me.

These guys have got a couple, including an ex California RHD conversion at 7k with MOT and a UK spec PI car with 12 months MOT at 8k. You can probably pay less privately if you need to.

(I have never had any dealings with them)

We used to have a lovely CP (150bhp) PI car in the 1990's. It was absolutely fantastic. Don't listen to the doom-mongers who warn you off the injection. Ours ran faultlessly for years. A good CP PI car is the one to own (especially if tax exempt).

cheers for that...

At the moment Im looking at weighing up the options for a toy...

In the future Im looking to move to Finland maybe in a year or so, therefore Im looking at buying the cars in the UK as they are so much cheaper and then moving them across there, the toy will be something like this or a 70s 911 rs recreation.

in terms of electrical problems a 6 has lights, indicators, a horn, some instruments and associated senders, a distributor, a coil, and six leads and plugs. From memory the fuse box has about 5 fuses one of which is a spare! It may have had a stereo or alarm fitted at some point but that should be easy enough to bin.

I would have thought a loom could be replaced over a weekend. I wonder if the state of hood's window reflects the electrical problem??!!!

If you're planning on moving abroad, then I can see the appeal of LHD. Yes you're right that LHD cars are generally cheaper here than on the continent, so can understand your motivation to buy now, carry out any work here and then move on. I've never been to Finland but expect it can get very cold, so a soft-top British sportscar might not get the most use over there. A 70's 911RS replica would be rather more money than a TR6 though!

There are plenty of LHD-only cars from European Manufacturers that have found their way over to the UK, which are often cheaper-priced than abroad. Eg. Citroen SM, Alfa SZ/RZ, R5 Turbo 1&2, E30 M3, Integrale, Thema 8.32. Then you've got all the American stuff like Corvettes, Vipers, Mustangs etc.

Finland is minus 20-30 degrees in winter when the car is living in a heated garage and in summer the weather is +30, its a unknown reality that most people think that the place is absolutely freezing all the time.

70s 911s that Im looking at range from £19k - £29k, its just I have always had a soft spot for the TR series which I can explain and I would only be allowed one toy, so it would be:

1 x Estate type car
1 x 4x4
1 x Toy.

American muscle was another choice with something like an old cuda or charger, but again those are getting more expensive and then I start have to tell porkies about the costs that I just paid. Finland is quite big on the muscle cars.

Bear in mind that standard US-spec TR6 only has about 100 bhp, and a lower ratio diff to try to compensate. I think you'd be better off sourcing a european LHD CP or CR engine code car, then you'll get the PI and its associated benefits.

If the wiring problem is simple....why have they not just got friends in the trade to sort it out at mates rates and then sell the car for its maximum?? They are after all a classic car firm. I would be wary
