Invincible 4x4 Drivers?!
Discussion
With the bad weather the last few days there seems to be a lot of people thinking that because they're in a chuffin big 4x4 that the icy road conditions won't effect them?
Granted, yes having 4 wheel drive is a benefit when picking off / going up and down slopes etc. however more noticeably over the last few days I've seen a fair bit of dodgy driving some of the most shocking of which was by 4x4's.
In particular tailgaiting, driving too fast on icy roads and braking too late when approaching stationary traffic / junctions
Has anyone else noticed this or has it just been isolated to my commute through the Glasgow Southside and Penilee.
Personally I drove past 2 bumps where 4x4's had rear ended other cars.
(If you're a 4x4 PH'er please ignore this rant, I'm sure this won't apply to you)

To be fair any AWD car on the wrong tyres has an interesting inbalance between traction and braking and needs to be driven accordingly - scoobies evos and other awd sports cars included.
Yip, totally agree.I was cruising along at 20mph in my scoob and some t
t in a pajero was blasting past me, outside a school, doing 40ish on road that was thick with frozen snow. A.J.M said:

Although numpties exist in all makes of cars, the 4x4 driving ones stand out a bit more in this weather. And get caught out eventually.
Saying that, people like to crash into the bucket...
Its nothing against the bucket..... Its you we're aiming for

Aim for something else though. A tree, lamp posts, children, etc. my insurance is going down and I want to keep it that way! I live on a steepish hill. Householder lives at bottom of hill and drives a BMW X5. He couldn't get up the hill and had to be towed up by a bog standard Mk 2 Honda CRV!
Just because you own a 4x4 doesn't mean you know how to drive it! Best thing I ever did was to go on a 4x4 course at Knockhill - taught me how to handle - even in 2 wheel drive - vehicles in a variety of conditions and on steep slippery gradients when you deliberately have to stall the engine and restart it!

X5 is particularly shyte though as it has no diff locks and runs wide, high speed-rated tyres. They're not meant for ice/snow or offroad at all.Just because you own a 4x4 doesn't mean you know how to drive it! - I have a rwd car on full snowflake snow tyres, a suv on m+s tyres and an awd coupe on performance tyres - so I'm the pussy braking early all winter!
