I just had my Chim fully serviced and gone over with a fine toothed comb looking for problems.

It's not ALL bad news...

Chassis and outriggers are solid as they come and the clutch and drivetrain are strong and healthy. Had some new rear pads popped on and fluids, plugs, filters etc...

However...

Two things have been brought to my attention:

1. Nearside front strut, bottom shock bush is touching the wishbone.

2. Steering rack is leaking fluid and needs replacing.

Mine is the model with power steering, so:

What parts do I need and how much is this going to hurt my anus?

And by anus I mean wallet.

Thanks!

If you can remove the rack and send off then will cost you about £200-250 to refurb rack.

Best place to send rack to is Kiley Clinton in Birmingham. http://www.steering-racks.co.uk/

If you need someone to remove and re-fit rack, then prob add about 3-4hrs labour on top of this.

Is a refurb better and easier than replacing it?

Only I found a place locally what would pick up and drop off the rack after refurb (I'm down in Devon).

Also... bushes? wishbone? What's that all about?

biggrin

You can't replace the rack as they are not available new (i think the rack is a TVR made/re-engineered part) so only option is to send to get refurbished. Only place i would trust with my rack is kiley clinton. I sent to 2 places before and the seals failed again within the space of 12 months with both of them (on one occasion they had it 3 times!!! - Avoid Power Steering Services in Greenwich!!)

I sent mine by courier and they sent by courier back to me, so the distance shouldn't be an issue once you have it out.

Kiley Clinton can make some changes to the rack to improve it and they get a lot of good feedback. There may be other places where it will come back fine, but i'd strongly recommend Kiley Clinton as they know what they are doing with TVR racks.

Gorv only go to Kiley Clinton, I had my rack rebuilt about 3 times by a bunch of jokers.
When Kiley Clinton refurbed my rack they did a great job and I have had no troubles since.

So listen to this old boy. byebye

What did they charge Cloggy?

And do you know if they do a pick up / drop off thing or anything similar?

Whatever they charge it has to be cheaper than sourcing a new rack. This is the only one I've seen for sale in a LONG time
