Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 petrol - real life MPG?

My WJ has done 10K or so since I bought it, over this time it has done 19.2MPG according to the spreadsheet. This is a mix of predominately long motorway runs & a bit of local running around. They hate short journeys & lots of hills, slow corners, whilst in Devon we were getting around 12-13MPG due to the hills, stop/start & traffic.
I love mine, bought 10 months ago for £2,300 off of E Bay. Now done 92K. worth coming over to www.jeepclub.co.uk as there is a lot of knowledge over there.

That'll be a WJ then same as mine. On a run I can see 24ish but a few cold starts & local running soon brings that figure down. There is a discussion on Jeep Club with what to look for when buyin which is worth looking at.TheD said:

I got low mid to mid twenties from mine, a mix of drving, in town it was probably high teens - twenty average.Long runs at just under the speed limits 60-70 was high twenties to thirty. Could also go a reasonable distance with 0 miles in the distance to empty display and fuel light on. I managed over 30 miles no problem.

How can you complain about the mpg on the grand cherokee when you own a monaro???
I had a 4.0 XJ Cherokee for 12 months.
A gentle 60mph run on the motorway would return 24mpg.
Around town it would manage about 16mpg.
Great engine. Smooth, reasonably powerful, sounded good and utterly bombproof.
Diffs, front UJs and rear springs were weak.
ABS, central locking and immobilizer also troublesome.
Tail happy handling when not in 4WD is a bit intrusive, especially when coupled to slow steering and wet roundabouts.
Comfy as a Granada and as capable as a Land Rover.
I rather liked mine, but it was a thirsty old dog.

I'm not complaining about the mpg, just thought it might be a bit better.Doing the same journey everyday i get about 18mpg out of the Monaro, i usually get there quicker with a much bigger smile on my face too!

Unfortunately there is a lot of mechanical drag with the Cherokee I know what your saying bout the monaro though Doing the same journey everyday i get about 18mpg out of the Monaro, i usually get there quicker with a much bigger smile on my face too!
