Senior Van Diemen figures were very much in evidence at Buttonwillow track in southern California in mid April, as the test and development programme continues for the new all carbon tub Formula Mazda car.

A series of shock, spring and suspension settings were being assessed; and tests being carried out to decide on the best permanent aero and wing package for the single series specification car. Times were impressively quick - and the competitors’ orders keep arriving at the offices of organisers Star Mazda (www.starmazda.com).

This post is not making fun or slagging off certain individuals, just a few home truths!

1. The competition was launched at Autosport 2003, another TV show about motor racing was refused space at the show because Autosport have a commercial arrangement with Formula Woman. The Club Editor of Autosport is against such arrangements.

2. I am not sure of the real number that entered but the organiser worked on various profiles. The business section of the Formula Woman proves this as they advertise, karate instructor, lawyer, poledancer and housewife. It was supposed to bring new names forward and not well known ones.

3. When the final 50 was chosen there just happened to be a "Poledancer", "Karate Instructor" and 2 lawyers! Add to that RAF fighter pilot, sister of F1 driver, opera singer and transexual, you can see a patten forming.

4. While at Pembrey on a track day, Nigel the instructor was running a course for women. One on the course was Rachel Kimber. Rachel is a singer song writer and likes cars. However she cannot drive a race car and has only been driving on the road for less than a year. She made the final 50 because her manager sponsors Philip Glew in Formula BMW!

5. The organisor is paranoid about the truth getting out because ITV may pull the plug. First he tried to do a deal with a condom brand, however this fell through because of the watershed. He seems well bent on attacking anyone criticises FW. Just what more has he to hide?

I am all for more women in motorsport but not exploiting them as Formula Woman has done.

There is loads more of facts, but this is the last time I am posting on this sorry subject. Hopefully the MSA will take a look at this saga and do something possitive for women in motorsport.
