Well having recently sold my 996 turbo at the end of the summer (got a good offer and thought prices were starting to slip) I was on the lookout for something around the same sort of money that would be a bit special to pull out at the weekend, cheapish to run and not blow a fortune on depreciation....looked at lots of things but this popped up for sale very local to me. One drive and I bought it...so different to anything I've ever owner...so precise.
It's 09, touring pack, a/c etc, but the best bit was 1 owner, no track work, 3k miles and 3 services in the book. sold. Still getting used to it on damp cold roads but having a blast so far! Any other owners on board with tips?

Snap! Though mine's just Sport Pack and A/C. Had mine for just over a year now, still loving it. Had 8500miles on the clock when I bought it....and it rolled past 20,000miles this weekend just gone.

They all look cracking to me, especially naughty in black! I'm planning an exige as a possible next purchase, but undecided on using it as an everyday car or keeping it as a toy continuing with the current car for the commute.
Bearing in mind that previously I've happily driven a DC2 (with a ridiculous exhaust) and an mx-5 daily how would you say they are for regular use in terms of usability and reliability/running costs for 12k/annum. Also what kind of fuel consumption to the supercharged cars return on the M-way at 70ish and are the N/A cars noticably better on fuel?

I recently sold my Exige NA, and have gone back to a EP3 for practicality, the mpg in the Exige is better than the EP3 and I got close to 40mpg on a motorway cruise. I did need earplugs on long journeys though due to the sports exhaust I had fitted! Mine is the 2nd black one featured in this thread. As I mentioned, I have done around 12,000miles in the Exige this year. I can manage it as an everday car without issue. The gf's hatchback is the default option for shopping, but you can get a weekly shop on the passenger seat/footwell in the Lotus if need be. The only other practical issues are ground clearance and rear visibility (i.e lack of it).
Apart from an oil leak this summer, the car has been 100% trouble free. Fuel economy works out to around 31mpg for normal mixed driving. I have used the standard Yokohama A048 semi-slick tyres for the majority of ownership, and the rears lasted around 6500 miles at a time, but I have just recently fitted more sensible road-biased rubber and have kept the semi-slicks for track use. My wallet with thank me for it.

Personally I think an Elise/Exige is better served as a weekend toy, but everyone's different. When I used my Elise every day the poor visibility, propensity to mist up, looking like a chump, etc. all bothered me every day. When it retired to weekend work every journey was a pleasure. I think the element of them being "hardcore" is over-stated. I did 500 miles + in a day and never felt anything less than happy. But commuting back from work in torrential rain holding my breath over every chunk of standing water was hard work. Mine didn't cost significantly more to run than my EP3 CTRs, and reliability was faultless. Thus far my Exige has been the same but the bill when the VHPD needs rebuilding should be enough to preclude holidays for a year or two.
My advice - don't hesitate, they're wonderful, wonderful cars.
