When browsing for new bikes...

Does anyone else dismiss 90% of the bikes on a page because they "look wrong"?

I am severely limiting my choice of rides just because I get a warm feeling from a certain orientation of frame tubes. Example (forget the spec, just look at the orientation of the tubes in the frame)

I can't even put my finger on what it is. Just some bikes look "right" to me, and have a really great stance, and others leave me totally cold.

I have to select purely on who makes the most hugest frame, so I don't get a lot of choice. White bar tape is just wrong though.

the two you refer to do have slightly different geometry and in hugely simplistic terms, the pinarello looks like its aimed at the faster average speed rider hence the more horizontal top tube which should, in my mind, pitch the rider a bit higher. the colnago looks perfect for the comfort seeker. when you go looking for a bike, you should have in mind the type of riding is for and that will dictate to a minor degree, the geometry of the frame..

in short, yes i agree. some frames just look wrong. i love the enigma echo but those curved seat stays look wrong on screen and wrong in the flesh.

This. Tubes should be straight, the worst example being Pinarellos, they're fugly IMO.

I love steel-framed and titanium framed bikes. I also love Pinarellos with their wavy front and rear ends. But I can't stand the bent top-tube on Specialized for example.

Right: Yuck at the seat stays and forks, definitely function over form on the pinrello
Wrong: The Colnago just looks bloated and actually looks out of proportion (could be the frame size pictured)

I actually prefer the oversized (but not massively oversized) tubing in ali bikes, most Ti/steel bikes look too thin to me.

I dislike straight forks on roadies, and particularly dislike those swoopy ones in the links above.

The pic above is perfect. The fork has a nice curve and the bike looks simple/elegant.

Same on MTBs too. I don't like those with the monolithic rear arm (Orange P5). I prefer a triangle (Lapierre).

Totally with you on that. The Lapierre bikes are about the only FS XC rides I can stand to look at.

Makes the chain look all exposed doesn't it?

I mean, I know it's not, and that the triangle isn't anything do to with protecting the chain, but to leave it "hanging there" is all aesthetically wrong.

For me it's mainly the way the angles intersect.
