I need to buy a bottle of champagne for someone but have no idea what to buy them. Ideally I'd like some brand kudos and somewhere up to £40/£50 but still very drinkable

Any suggestions?

At this time of year. Veuve Cliquot will be doing some fancy presentation bottles. That will be fine.

In sainsburys for champagne. Spotted a Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2002 for £33 IIRC but it was the nice black and golf box that sold it for me.

If you feel that it has the brand recognition you want, at that price point, I'd go for Billecart-Salmon...

^^^ This. It's a damn fine champagne, well recognised, nicer than Mumm or any of the cheaper moets. And you can find it easily in every good off license and virtually every supermarket. Last bottle I bought was about £35, but a good presentation box will give you some nice extras.

Yes, but it's pink. And therefore a bit girly. Not to mention impossible to drink without thinking of crap Eagles songs.
