I have no idea what's going on - it reverts to the Origin screen but I have no idea if anything is happening or am still pissing in the wind six hours later.

Just logged into origin and it took less than 5 minutes to download and install the update . There is a button at the bottom of the origin UI that say download progress are something along those lines. If you click that it will open up a screen which shows the download rate and how much has been download/still to download.

Seriously - WTF is up with game nowadays - what happened to getting home and being able to have a quick virtual punch-up.

Now it seems that every time you want to have a go, there's a ten minute log on time, the odd hour update, if you're not running the same version as your mate, you can't play, but he didn't know how he downloaded it and you can't work out how he did it either... Next thing there is a bunch of maps that you never knew existed and everyone is one them but you don't want to download because you've already paid five times what Led Zep 3 costs and while that was an astute investment 200 years ago, this seems to just waste your time and you haven't even played the game yet.

fk YOU COMPUTER GAME MAN.

When my XBOX went 'phut' last year, hasn't been missed - new crop of Steam, Vent, Origin, suck my spunk through the hole that my pinky left in my cumsock, attached games leaves me very cold - I want a game that I can load, play and fk YOU I WANT TO BECOME A RECLUSE AND SPEND HOURS AWAY FROM MY INSIPID WIFE WHO, LIKE YOU, WOULD LIKE TO SUCK EVEN MORE FROM MY LIFE WITHOUT GIVING BACK ANYWHERE NEAR THE COVER PRIcE.

Bollarks.

So, game is supposedly updated (seemed to be very quick, does Origin download and then just ask your permission to install?).

Anyway. I can't join any servers. None at all. I get various errors from the Battlelog. Anyone else got this problem?

You're lucky!

Every server I try I get "Game disconnected: No reply from server"

Very annoying.

Try 'repairing' game from Origin, then close Origin down again and start over. Worked for me

Ironically the only versions that seem to work nowadays are the pirate versions without all the crap in them.

I can completely sympathise with the anger in posts like this.

I simply dont understand why EA 1) created an overly complex GUI we didnt need, in Origin - to manage game connections. 2) Appear not to have tested anything properly.

I spent an hour on Saturday trying to get a quick few games in whilst the missus was out. Time like this is precious these days. Yet I simply could not get on.

Origin "couldnt launch BF3", then when it could I couldnt connect to anything - "Joining Server" it told me for 15 minutes at a time. Eventually I got a round in only to find that the loadout screen at the end of the game (where it displays awards gained and tallies up points) went black, and the game crashed at that point.

Last night after I finally got the update down, a mate and I spent an hour trying various things to allow us to get Co-Op to work. We gave up eventually - "you host it", ... time passes ..we go through host connection, waiting, loading etc eventually "Client Cancelled Connection". OK OK "ill host it, is your Anti Virus turned off, it could be that - OK", same thing happens only we get "Disconnected from EA Online" this time. It went on, and on. Eventually we just played multiplayer - although not until I had restarted Origin three times, the computer itself once, and had reached my umpteenth attempt to join my mate online - "Joining Soldier" it says.... and probably would still say now, had I not killed the process and started again. BC2 worked fine as an application - why did EA decide they needed a new GUI, a web browser API ? - its trying to be too clever for its own good, all we the paying public, really want to do is *play the damned game* we dont care one iota about blogs, or battlefield reports - we can get stats from third party applications later if we decide we do want them.

This is of course completely apart from the fact that my mouse will stop working on menu screens in game (deployment, loadout etc) at random, and I still cant map my joystick buttons properly (throttle refuses to map).

BF3 is a lovely game, it has its flaws but I am liking it overall. The GUI and application itself - is WOEFUL however. And going back to my empathising with the OP - the rage it makes you feel after 45 minutes of cocking around with a problem you shouldnt have, seeing precious gaming time ebb away *again* is enough to drive people to actual murder, Im sure.

There is Im sure nothing we can do, we will all still buy the next BF etc EA dont actually listen to any feedback from what I can tell. However it just appals me that they could release such a buggy, non functioning piece of software to their paying customers - surely these problems should have been resolved following Alpha and Beta test ?.

I give up.

I have actually gone and bought Skyrim now. Never before have my gaming decisions been based on "ill buy another game for those times when game X simply isnt working or I have tried for an hour to get on and cant".

OP I feel your pain.

R.

Exactly M@verick - just want to play for half an hour, have a few games and end up deciding that teaching the cats to wash up ould be less frustrating.

When I looked this morning, having left origin and the battelog open last night for the download, all I had was the black 'crash' screen. Didn't have time to see what had happened - I'm expecting a frustrating evening ahead.

I hate the origin user interface the stupid web page and other things about this game, like:

Why does my first game crash? 80% of the time

Why does my first game (the ones that connect) take a month to load up? later ones don't. If you're loading up the game, what was happening when I started it from my desktop?

Why am I kicked off of some servers, randomly losing all my points. EA disconnects me. WHY? have you built server side software that is so unstable?

Why can I search filter for a game with 10 slots free and find the server full when I try and join?

Why does "quick match" simply not work, and on the two occasions it has, there was nothing quick about it?

Why does the server crashing count as me quitting the game? I didn't, you made me quit.

Why can't I change my load out at the UI screen or at the scoereboard screen? Nope I have to wait until the game starts, faff around then and miss time actually playing.

Why can't I quit out of the server, when I want, and not lose my progress. ITS MY GAME I PAID FOR IT. if I want to quit at a time that is convenient for me then I should be able to do so with no penalty.

Why can't I quit out of the campaign at all at some points? See above.

Why considering your using a Web UI couldn't you have also invested in a VOIP system that means I don't have to join a party first. You know, just in case I want a CASUAL game where I can hear my team mates. MW1 managed it, why can't you?

What the hell has hapened to the Squad system? I'm no longer in a squad automatically. Do you really want this to be a COD clone, 'cos its looking like it.

Most of all, and I'm with Asterix on this one, what happened to just being able to turn on the computer and having a quick game I can drop into any time I want and I don't have to hang around for ages for an update to download, or my internet connection to be up if I want to play the campaign.

Game designers you've been let down by EA, your distributors on this one. Did you really think it was a good idea to have the Web interface? When they sat you down in the meeting to discuss it, did you not think, what was the matter with the old system? If you did, then you should be ashamed to have gone along with the corporate BS that you were told.
The Web UI is slow, laborious and most importantly, pointless.

ETA: The game starts minimised on the Taskbar and worse you have included a tick box that says "go to game when ready" WHY? of course I want to go to the game. Thats why I asked to join a server you numpties. AND, AND even after I've ticked that stupid box it doesn't go to the game does it? No I have to maximise it myself.

Rant over.
