I'm playing in a decent band, although we're still in rehearsal at the moment. I'm confident & experienced on guitar, I've played big rooms in front of hundreds of people & I always believe I'll hit it on stage & I usually do.

Yet I always get periods when it feels like my fingers are made out of bananas. I'm having one of them now. Today I was mucking about playing along with a couple of RHCP tunes & came unstuck on Dani California, which is not exactly Paganini.

It always passes & I am a daily practiser, but do others get periods when you're just on it like a guitar lord & then out of nowhere, feel like you're wading through treacle?

Same with me mate, but on the sax, which is my instrument of choice! Sometimes it's great, everything flows and sounds great. Other times the fingers just can't keep up and my phrasing goes to hell. Sometimes the fingers seem ok and the brain goes to goo...!

The trick is to practice enough so that even on a bad day, we're still good enough wink
