Rebecca basically told Sony where to get off when they tried to force her to only record songs that they had had written for her for her first album. She said they were cheesy and would only record her own stuff.

To me I think that takes balls, and judging by her first single I think she was right. Check it out here:

Also this is a canny business move as she will be the one getting paid as the publishing rights is where the money is at. What to you guys think?

I love her voice by the way

I liked that.

She's going for the jiggy market since barry white passed on.

X factor is always turning up good female voices. They then go and record a load of bland inoffensive material and disappear.

Until X factor allows people to showcase their own material I can't see it discovering anyone interesting.

I wonder how much of that is really Rebecca and how much is Eg White?

Olly Murs has done really well from it. although he doesn't write his tunes, you can't deny they are all catchy, and he's full of charisma! He's playing the o2 on his own next year, which youh ave to be big to do really!

Well apparently her first album is all her own material. She has been quoted in various articles recently saying that she has been writing for years. So good luck to her I say

Didn't Will Young do something similar? I'm pretty sure he has a deep hatred of Cowell and the entire X Factor experience.

I never take much notice of X-factor when it's on, so didn't really know who she was until the wife and I went shopping at Liverpool One. Ferguson was there for the switching on of the Christmas lights/tree, and was belting out stuff from her album (I think). She's got an awesome voice, and is spot on live, which is where most vocalists fail to produce the goods.
I'll probably buy the album and give it a shot.

Will Young didn't win - he came second. That meant he wasn't contractually obliged to do a "st christmas single", which invariably ruins your career.

Remember Gareth Gates? No? He won that year. He was the one with the stutter. I think he does panto now.

It was the other way around actually (I didn't know, just looked up Will Young on Wikipedia).

Really? In some ways I'm almost glad I'm woefully misinformed about TV talent shows. wink

Leona is probably the best/most popualr perso nto ocme out of the X Factor.

Wil ldid win but he also had the advantage of being the first person to win Pop Idol when it was all new I believe. He had some big hits well after he won which is fairly rare.

Given we haven't seemed to have heard from her in a few years I'd dispute that and say JLS are doing better and that One Direction are going in the same direction. Their music might be cheesy pop but there's a huge market of screamin teenage girls out there for them.

JLS have had 2 albums out and one this month

Leona has had 2 albums out and one next month

I daresay is a much better musical talent than JLS - but as you say JLS may well mantain popularity because of their fans.

First time I heard one of her songs it was just on the radio. I had no conceptions/ misconceptions of the x factor conection. I simply liked the song. So much so I err cough downlosded the album for a listen.
Very very good really do like her voice "too good to lose" is simply superb amongst others.
Just got her new album as in bought it - it's a "grower". Much more introverted and melancholy than I would have expected

About the only other X Factor thing I have ever thought was any good was Liberty X
Maybe it really did take X Factor 10 years to get a credible artist into the mainstream

New album is well worth a listen " I choose you" is very listenable
