To all London dwelling PH'drs

We're off to TG Live next Sunday and was wondering the best means of getting there.
1st question Train or Drive?
2nd question if train what is the best route from Paddington to Custom House on the DLR (seems to be several options) I've travelled into London quite a bit for work, however always weekday peak times, what's the tube etc like on a Sunday, lots of eng' works etc?

Ta!

Train is fine but do check for engineering - which can be extensive during the weekend, overground and underground.

Easiest route is Paddington > Circle / District Line > Tower Hill > short walk to Tower Gateway for DLR. Or you you could take Central Line to Bank, and get DLR from there.

If driving, would avoid going through town or south. M25 north, then M11 south, pick up North Circular to Becton and Excel is about 10 mins from there.

Could always fly Plymouth to City Airport and walk from there!

Last time i travelled to Customs House was on a Sunday, and that was by train, Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington, then tube from Paddington to Oxford Circus, then tube to Bank, then Bank to Customs House. Best to book train tickets online.

I'd take the train - I never find driving across London to be any fun. Sunday traffic in London can be just as snarled up as weekdays.

There are engineering works next Sunday - so the suggestion above douesn't work. District / Circle and Jubilee will all be out on Sunday morning.

Therefore: Come out of Paddington and walk to Lancaster Gate - less than ten minute walk. There are signposts or ask station staff to point you in right direction.
Take central all the way to Stratford. At Stratford, check the DLR indicator - there may be a direct train going to Beckton via Custom House (Excel), and if there is then get on that. If no direct DLR train, take jubilee to Canning Town and change there to DLR.
The changes of lines at Stratford and Canning Town are really easy and well sign posted.

Excel is in zone 3. Don't buy cash singles - that's always bad value. Either PAYG on Oyster or a day travelcard.

This. When I used to do Paddington to East End, the walk to Lancaster Gate for the Central line was always worthwhile.

Don't drive- when I lived there it would often take me as long to get from Excel to the start of the M4 in Chiswick as it did to get from Chiswick to Bristol.

If you have to drive I'd suggest driving anticlockwise round the M25 to J2 and then taking the A2 all the way up to the Blackwall Tunnel. In terms of distance it's the long way round but it's often faster than trying to drive straight through the centre.

Just checked and the Circle H'smith & City most other lines are shut or partially shut!!
Was thinking of Temple Meads to Paddington, B'loo to OCircus then Central to Bank and pick up the DLR there. Is London that busy on the roads on a Sunday? Train is going to cost over £100 whereas car would be around £50 with parking.

One can get two day return tickets from Bristol to Paddington for 48.80. Last time i drove to London, Tower Bridge area, took me longer to travel from Tower Bridge to M4, than it took me from Bristol to Chiswick, so train every time.

If you decide to drive. I'd jump on the M25 clockwise from M4 take the M11 towards east London A13 towards London for a couple of miles and follow excell signs.
