Series 2 starts tonight with the A380 and the UK's contribution.
Series 1 was quite good I thought. They covered building a RR jet engine, the rush job to get Chinooks out of storage and into the air, and the building of the Navys HMS Astute submarine.

Did I see/understand that correctly, when the woman was checking the fuel tanks, looked like there was no sepearte tank as such, it is just a section between the spars ?

Yes, the wing is the tank. There are several tanks per wing & she was checking there was no leakage between wing rib & outer skin.

I'm guessing because it's not quite as much of a disaster to have fuel leaking from tank to tank as it is from tank to outside

It wasn't tank to tank. There are some empty compartments in the wing I thought I heard her say?

TBH I thought the programme was OK but if you'd watched the "Building the Biggest - A380" series on Discovery then you'd seen all this already and more as it was more about building the aircraft and didn't cover the "people going to the gym / airbus football team" nonsense which if you're an aircraft buff is pointless filler. For example they went in to more detail on the unpowered gear drop test as the first time they did it the wheels got wedged on the doors and didn't deploy so they had to go through a redesign.

I've seen both as well and agree... On the other hand, this one was obviously aimed at a more casual audience, and I think it can only be a good thing to give Joe Public a better idea of UK manufacturing and how important it still is!

Didn't they grease up the doors in that test to stop the tyres from sticking, arguing that in reality, with all the vibration that goes on, there was no way that they would actually stick?

Yes they did grease the doors. They still had to re-desgin the doors though, as just hoping the landing gear would come down without power in flight isn't good enough.

They were only checking the gear still deployed whilst fitted with the lighter brake units, that's the way I saw it???
