Looking to rent a sporty convertible in France
Discussion
Situation is as follows, part of our honeymoon next year in September we will be spending 3-4 days in and around Nice/Monaco/Marseilles. As a true petrolhead, that i am, I am thinking to rent a sporty convertible so we can enjoy the beautiful French coast in style.
Had a quick look around and carhire3000 are offering a Merc SLK (or similar) for around 650 quid ( thats about the budget). Can I do better? Any dos and donts ?
Cheers,
Chip

OP: many of the larger car hire firms will, only for the South of France, have very plush saloons, coupés and cabrios available to rent - at a price.
A colleague of mine recently hired a Peurgeot 3008 (I know, I know...) but received a brand new V12 7 series as the rental firm couldn't find their own Peugeot in the rental parking!

I fancy one of them there Sports Voyagers which seems to have snuck in at the bottom of the list...Have you driven in this area before?
Its very very busy with mopeds/scooters everywhere. it was a bit of a culture shock after several years on the Atlantic coast. Lovely scenery. I can personally reccomend the beaches at St Aygulf. The coast road from Frejus into Cannes is also wort a run. If you do get a nice motor the tunnels in the mountains above Monaco will be some nice aural entertainment.

Part of the pleasure of driving a sports convertible, is that cruising along the Ave Des Anglaise in Nice then onto the Corniche, is the posing. The fact that the traffic is pretty heavy isn't to big a problem - it beats the hell out of driving along the Cromwell Road. I drove from Nice to Viareggio in June, mostly on the coast road - world class drive. I took my Z4, the price of sports rentals made me wince.
