cycle commute route planning?
Discussion
Are there any sites available to help with planning a cycle commute? I'm considering doing the entire journey by bike (something to aim for next summer, currently I just do the home-station bit on the Brompton). Ideally I would like to avoid busy roads, cycle paths and towpaths being the preference. Is there any such routefinder service available? Or is it just a case of getting out the maps and testing things out?
I've used mapmyrun before for this, but it is a bit of a manual process. However, it is straight-forward. Who knows, you might find the route you want already plotted in by someone else... http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/
Annoyingly, google maps for the US has a 'bicycling' option that does exactly what you want.

I'm planning on commuting into work next year but will do it a couple of times on the weekend first (it's 15 miles into London...)
What about http://gmap-pedometer.com/ ? You can select it to route 'for cyclists', although I'm not sure what the difference is between that and for cars...

This is ace. I use the iPhone app regularly. I used to commute about 15 miles from Wolverhampton to Birmingham on the road. I used this and found I could get on the canal 300 yards from my house and commute on tow paths all the way to the canal opposite work. I even go through over 3 miles (yes really!) of canal tunnels. I didn't even know I could do it until I used the app.Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
