Coleman's English Mustard, or Wasabi. Which is hotter?

I know they accompany different food etc (and I'm just talking about basic entry level product here).

They both have a kick, but which is sharper?

Depends where you get it from and what ratio of ingredients it includes, but the wasabi I've had a number of times in the last few years is definitely more punchy than good old english mustard.

I love both, but wasabi would be the one for me..

Surely Horseradish should be in the mix with this too, since Wasabi is essentially Japanese Horseradish.

I'd say that Mustard sits at the bottom of the pile, followed by Wasabi and then Horseradish. Some of the best Horseradish I've had was freshly ground and it felt like someone was squirting napalm up my nostrils with every taste. Fantastic stuff.

Wasabi is generally hotter than mustard, but if you make up your own mustard from Colmans powder then you can achieve "great levels of hotness"

Where do you get them from?

I've only found them in Sainsburys once, and have never been able to find them again, despite asking too.

Only other place I can find to buy them in larger quantities is a few online stores. Bloody love the things!

What can you do with wasabi? Grreat with sushi, sure. Roast beef sandwich at a push, or get busy snorting it so your friends can see you cry...That's it!

Mustard's so versatile. So many varieties, different strengths. Marinades, sauces, you name it.

No contest.

Edit: How could I forget everyone's favourite Wasabi peas?! hehe

Tesco, look for Humdinger Wasabi peas. They are found on the snacks area with the peanuts and stuff.

My local Budgens sells both Wasabi peas and (my favourite) Wasabi coated peanuts.

However, I do appreciate that this is PH and home to (powerfully built) company directors who would consider Budgens to be 'slumming it' and would have no desire to rub shoulders with riff-raff. Perhaps your manservant could pop in for you.....

Cheers all. I think I'll try that link online as the price seems pretty good for the bag size. Have also since been informed that there is a chinese supermarket in Reading too, so will pop in there to treat myself (how sad).

Use ice cold milk in the powder to really bring out the flavour.
