Toyota Auris 2.2 D-4D SR 180 - any good?

I'm sick to death of my 318 and as much as I want another BMW or German marque, there is something about the Auris SR180 that really appeals. I think they're a great looking car and can be had for what I think is sensible money at a sensible age and mileage. I could imagine they're quite rapid too.

But, what are they really like? Is there anything I should be aware of? I'm not really up to speed with my Japanese car knowledge so thought I'd ask in here.

fairly quick, piles of torque, not very sporty, looks ok in white, will probably last forever.

won't ignite any spirited driving but will bomb along quite nicely.

why not look at a alfa giulietta 2.0jdtm, 170bhp, nicer/sportier drive???
Astra sri 1.9t diesel 3door, very quick and quite a good drive???

just a thought , thats all...
