Hi , I am about to buy a 3000gt non turbo SR 4WD track car, its already been stripped out, it has a half roll cage, two bucket seats , straight through exhaust, induction kit and slicks!

just interested to know peoples feedback on these cars, i live in Dubai where I intend to track it at every opportunity. I think its currently kicking out around the 230bhp so nothing crazy but easily enough for what i want.

I am however interested in knowing if it can be easily modified to have turbos or if theres alot of work to be done.

thanks!

Is the 3000GTO the only car you are considering as a track car?

Depends what you want really - I would probably consider something lighter, with RWD and similar/more power if you want something faster (you mention wanting to turbo it).

If you want Jap, something like a 200SX (Silvia) would also be something to consider.

As track cars go I wouldn't have put the 3000 in the list of best choices to be honest. It does have many of the driver aids of the evo but its a bit fat and heavy and as cars go there isn't a lot you can strip out to save weight. As for turbo charging the NA engine, I wouldn't say its worth the cost when you can just buy a turbo one for far less than the cost of a conversion.

Honestly, I would be looking for a different car all together as suggested up the page, sorry mate;)

I just wouldn't bother with 4wd for a (dedicated) track car. It would be as light as possible, to aid power to weight, braking and wear and tear on components. And it would be simple to fix. I reckon you'd have much more fun in a stripped out MX5 or a Westy/cateram/MK Indy etc.

I would say join the GTO owners club forum for some more advice but i see you've already just done that :-)

There's no such thing as a 3000GTO, it's either a 3000GT (UK spec) or a GTO (jap spec), and only the jap spec is available as an N/A, the 3000GT's are all twin turbo's.

Though i wouldn't go for one as a dedicated track car as that's not what their build for. My upgraded 3000GT is great fun on the track, but there are a lot of other cars out there i'd look at first for a trackcar, a few already mentioned in this thread.

Ditto.
I've had good fun on the track with my GTO TT but it's not really competitive. An N/A would be sluggish.

The GTO is a good GT car, covering ground at speed in comfort but as a track car not ideal... I adore my GTO but as a track car no thanks...
