FIA GT at Donington

Jamie Derbyshire looking forward to great battle in the Lister Storm

Northamptonshire sportscar racer Jamie Derbyshire will be looking to score his best result of the season next weekend (June 25-27), when he races at Donington Park in the UK round of the FIA GT Championship.

The Spirit Volkswagen backed driver has been hampered by a lack of circuit knowledge at all of the tracks he has raced at so far this season, with every venue being new to him. However, Donington will represent a turning point in his season, as he knows the layout well and has tested and raced there many times before.

“I can’t wait for the Donington meeting,” said Jamie. “I have been playing catch-up a little bit to the rest of the drivers in the series this year, as nearly all of the tracks are new to me. I know Donington though and there is the 24-hour race at Spa after that too, so I am hoping that I can be right on the pace from the first session,” he added.

The 625bhp Lister Storm car that Jamie has been driving this season has been snapping at the heels of the race winning Ferraris and Saleens so far. A best finish of fourth at the last round has been the highlight of the championship for Derbyshire. A podium result is the aim for him and the test of the team, especially in from of the home crowd.

“Racing in front of the British fans will be great,” said Jamie. “The whole Super Racing Weekend package is superb for the fans and the other races have been on another level compared to last year. But, there is always something special about racing on your home track when you are doing a championship like this. The whole team will definitely be out to get the best result possible” he added.

Jamie will take to the circuit on Friday for the first free practice session, before the team go into qualifying on Saturday and the three-hour race on Sunday.

It should be noted that this is not the works car and Creation have done a great job. Jamie Campbell-Walter is Jamie D's more experienced team-mate. JCW is considered by Ian Bickerton as the best driver ever to race the Storm. Jamie D last year drove the Mosler with Martin Short to win the BRDC GT championship against tough competition. If these two had the 2004 car they would be front runners!

No, Jamie Derbyshire drove the Balfe Motorsport Mosler and finished runner-up in the British GT Chanpionship.
