hi there mate iv had quite a few starlet glanzaz and GT turbos and there great cars and very relaible never had any problems with them exept the rear suspentions tend to go after a while and the rear calipers and n disc usually get problems also you have to be careful as the bottoms ends tend to go if there abused alot and thats about it and the the brakes are not good id recommend uprateing the front calipers and and pads as they dont tend to stop and spin alot in the rain if they have small wheels e.g 14 inch wheels the car is so light and the wheels just spin to much. asin if you floor it in the rain they can wheel spin even in fourth and fith gear so thats quite bad 16 inch wheels are perfect and thats about it lol have fun

You will be let down coming from a Fabia VRS. Ive had both in fact I owned 2 Glanza's.The Fabia is a far better car. The Glanzas are good fun and most are tweeked, different wheels, different suspension, different engine Mods, but a remapped VRS puts a bigger grin on your face.
I have never driven a Glanza but a fabia vrs remapped is not a fun car at all, are glanzas really that bad? Lighter, petrol, more compact....I doubt very much a vrs would be more fun.
Keep the Fabia VRS, the glanza's can be fun if modified correctly but awful interior and poor build qaulity, handle terrible (as standard) and horrible driving position.
Dispite only being a 1.3 engine they are expensive to insure being imports and not many insurance company's reckonise the glazna V turbo so won't touch them.
I had one imported espcially for me as wanted one in top condition, got rid of it after 3 weeks as hated it (losing alot of money in the process).

3 weeks? Hardly sounds as if you gave it a chance. Unless it was 100% the wrong type of car, ie you were really wanting a heavy RWD, n/a powered convertible.Dispite only being a 1.3 engine they are expensive to insure being imports and not many insurance company's reckonise the glazna V turbo so won't touch them.

The Glanzas were ok, they are very basic inside and made from paper. They feel quite quick but need a LSD which was only an option.
Standard they roll too much to be a decent hot hatch. The fabia rolls too much to be a decent hot hatch too but the speed of my Fabia was a different league.
My second Glanza was lowered, it just made it uncomfortable and didnt actually handle any better.
When you change it from KMH to MPH it wont fully boost in 1st or 2nd gear you you have to swap a couple of boost pipes around under the bonnet which over rided the pointless gimmicky hi/Lo boost feature leaving it in hi.
If you simply change the clock face the car is limited to 112mph.
I certainly woulnt swap a VRS for one.
That said they are not a bad car, pretty cheap to buy and run and look good.
If you want nippy and fun try a Mini CooperS John Cooper Works

Thanks for your opinions, I know the trim wont be as good as the fabia vrs its not right to compare a old car with one that is 5 yr old.
I know that they are not made the best but was hoping the build quality would be ok as its jap and toyota.
I want something nippy and not to common and still think the glanza v is a inexpensive toy.
I will check the mini's out, what are the glanzas like compared to a standard vrs?

Just didn't like it and didn't want it - was just disappointed with it from day one, knew I wasn't happy with it and wanted another Civic type R so couldn't see the point in drilling money into it getting it to do things better when could just buy somehthing that did that out of the box. Think I'd probably have loved it if I were 17 / 18.Don't get me wrong once modified and boost upped a bit they can be proper gaint slayers!
I'd recommend that the chap test drive one first, as coming from a modern car they feel super cheap & basic.
Messed around quite a bit with starlets although not owned one.
Think of them as a modern version of the Renault 5 turbo & you wont be dissapointed.
Handling from stock is quite poor although they can be hustled along once used to them but the back end can be very skittish.
Engines are strong until you start to tune them if you want to improve power then it needs forging otherwise no 3 piston will be on borrowed time.
With a forged engine (& other supporting mods) a friend runs a reliable 210 bhp which makes for a very quick little car although it doesnt have much of a top end it gets there very quickly.

I think I'd have one over a Fabia VRS just because it's a much more special car. I'd rather see a Glanza on my drive than a small VAG hatch, even if the VRS is quicker, more refined, etc etc.
Depends what your doing. I was driving from North Yorks to Plymouth every weekend, the VRS was brilliant at it. The Glanza was not.OP yes around town you will have more fun in a Glanza compared to a standard VRS. They are good cars.
Just my two pence worth but my friend has a Glanza V now running a healthy 180+BHP and it does fly, whether its the fact you feel like your half an inch off the ground due to the Coilys or the noise coming from pretty much everywhere! It just feels like so much fun to drive, its one of those cars that just asks for a good thrashing when you get inside it :-)
Having said that I think I prefer my GT4 as it feels more of a 'proper' car (in the nicest possible way!)

Very true. The Glanza is about as far from a good motorway crusher as you can get this side of a Daihatsu Storia Sprint X4 - if I had significant miles to do I wouldn't want to do them in a Glanza, at least not if they were all straight line M-way miles.OP yes around town you will have more fun in a Glanza compared to a standard VRS. Well said. They are close to painfull on a long motorway run, my starlet as neil pointed out has been a reliable 210bhp for 30k miles now and it is lots of fun but I wouldnt want to use it every day.IMO its worth paying a little extra for one that already has a forged engine as it will save a lot of money in the long run if you do want to up the power
