Scottish Country Hotels - Recommendations?
Discussion
Dear PH massif,
I'm looking for a short hotel break somewhere in rural Scotland - just to get away from Glasgow for a while - and would like to open the floor to suggestions.
Criteria:
- close to some country walks to ramble through
- reasonably priced
- reasonably luxurious
- the quirkier the better
- the more isolated, the better
Despite being resident to Scotland I'm trumped when it comes to this sort of thing - a range of options is always good. Any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers!

Can’t recommend this place enough http://www.gordonsrestaurant.co.uk/ Garry the, chef is well recognised as one of the leading talents within the industry. Beautiful walks along Lunan bay with easy access into the Grampians.
It's a restaurant with 'rooms' that are stunning.

Ardanaiseig Hotel on Loch Awe - stunning location, sublime food, very secluded yet not that far from Glasgow.

Knockderry House hotel in Cove, just up from Helensburgh.
Fantastic food, fantastic rooms - 4 poster beds, views out over loch long and down to Arran. My room had a roll top bath facing out over the same view. The staff are fantastic and the bar and restaurant have a lovely luxury feel to them.
They're doing a 2 night break inc dinner and breakfast for £105 per head over the winter, including afternoon tea upon your arrival.....we're plotting it already as it's one of my missus' favourite places and not far at all from Glasgow (about an hour)

There are some lovely hotels on here but with many at £150 per night, not including breakfast, do they have many customers at this time of year?
I stayed at Kinloch Lodge on Skye (Michelin Star) the other night, and it was full. My local, The Torridon ticks over in Nov, but is pretty much booked for Christmas and Hogmanay. The cheaper Inn will close for about 3 months.Andrew[MG] said:

It is always worth haggling even with the more upmarket establishments. Reservations staff are trained to only offer you the rack rate on first enquiry but they will have a minimum rate they can drop to if pushed. They will also have a degree of flexibility on room upgrades and inclusive deals (dinner, spa treatments, outdoor activities) so don't be shy about trying to get the best price available, especialy during quieter periods. cat220 said:
Agree, my first thought when reading the OP.Torridon was my second thought.
