torque settings

Hi, this weekend i have to change the head gasket on my mini 1.3 mpi, i have done this job before so the order for re tightening is not a problem, but i havent got the torque setting for the head bolts, does anybody have them to hand?

Also i need to check the rollers, what is the gap?

I think it's 46 lb.ft for the head nuts and 0.012" for the rockers. If you set 50 lb.ft you'll be fine, however. I little bit extra doesn't hurt with a Mini. Make sure you get a good head gasket. I think it's an AK450 you want. It should be black and feel a bit sticky. Don't put any light oil or grease on the gasket when fitting it, as we used to with the old copper faced gaskets - put it onto the top of the block absolutely dry and make sure the face of the head is clean and dry as well. Re-tighten and re-set valve clearances after 500 miles.

thanks, I have just taken the head off, the head gasket was a bit burnt so i have decided to get the head skimmed. will be back together saturday!

My tip for that job is to remove the manifold studs and replace them with 5/16" UNF x 1.25" long hex. head bolts. It makes life so much easier in future when you wnat to take the head off. I do it on all my cars.

the rockers are 0.30mm on mpi's did u have to get genuine rover headset??
