Just got back from a 600 mile long weekend in Southern Ireland. The car performed fantasticly. I am still amazed how good it is in the wet, anyone who thinks thease cars are a handfull in the rain should try a Griff 500 first! and it didnt leak, fantastic!

Problems so far are minor, the "shuttered" fuel gauge packed up minutes from the return ferry, it had been moaning about a error code "E" all day, so I guess it finaly went, but the digital one is still fine, so not a problem. I still cannot fitt the rear screen properly, it was deliverd with it in the boot (wonder why ) and the only way I can get it back in is by removing the clip from the car, doing it up, and screwing it back on. The other one is so stiff, the wire twister snaped off. I seems to me the clips are a bit pants in the first place. There is a number of scuffs/chips and scatches on the paintwork when it was delivered, some have been touched up, but im shure this can be put right at the first sevice. Oh I still dont have a handbook, just a photo copy.

So all in all (niggles aside)it is a fantastic car and the engine gets better every day. Power delivery is more refined than the griff, but could just be the imposed 3.5 to 4.0K rev limit while runing in, seem pretty dam quick even so.

I e-mailed my dealer today about the little issues and they sugested taking the car to the factory for its first service as they would sort out the paintwork there at the same time. Blackpool is about the same distance for me anyway. How long would they normaly need a car for to sort the above problems? is it a long weekend in sunny Blackpool or a leave it there for the week? There only seems to be a sales line on the main web site, does anyone have a contact to book it in for its service?

I would have a thought a week would be required for the paint etc. I think all new Tuscans have problems with the rear window...I certainly did as those dam clips were killing my fingers trying to screw the window in...but, as I was told by Castle TVR, give it a month and it would wear in and they were right and its easy now.

I've now done 10.5k and it still gets better with more miles...but am about to put up for sale as will be getting a Sagaris in March'05

Alan.

Congrats on the new Tusc!

You are a very tolerant person... it seems pretty drastic that the dealer allowed the car to be given to you with a fault with the rear screen...just be careful because it won't take much for the screen to be sucked out...at a reasonable speed if not fixed properly..I would take it to the factory and get the lot sorted.

Sounds like your dealer is a muppet. So yes definitely book it into the factory for it's first service and everything thereafter I would suggest!

cheers

The sales department are very good, one particular chap especially but the workshop are a waste of time! after seeing one particular s/h car I was interested in in having some work done, I made up my mind there and then that I wouldnt let them loose on another car of mine, and that was there own demo! The new car was purchased to get out of a situation with my Griff that never really got fixed. I would like to spill the beans on the whole afair, I had to stop posting on here about the situation because the dealer refused to talk to me until I did! They have no hold over me now but to be honest I just want to enjoy the car and be done with the hassle. Taking the car back to them for work was never an option. My rear window will not do up at all on the passanger side, so I dont think its going to get better, I have been talking to one of my customers about making some decent ones out of ally that wotk.

It's crappo PDI stuff like this that gives TVR a bad name and it's down to some of the dealers.

Rear window in the boot on delivery. FFS! When my car was delivered (to my house by the dealer principal in person) we spent about 45 minutes going over everything, removing and re-fitting roof and rear window included.

TVR need to kick ass and make sure these errant dealers do a professional job like the best ones do.

Agreed. As has been said before, this kind of thing should already be taken care off on a £40K+ purchase. I don't think too many would grumble about paying an extra £250 on top of the price for TVR to employ a bloke to spend all day on doing a very thorough PDI on every car leaving the factory and ensuring that absolutely everything works and is made perfectly before the car goes near a dealer, never mind the customer.

Than again, TVR may already employ a bloke in a brown coat who does this - yet things still get through?

I think TVR ownership is about buying a car that is 99.9% finished. They leave the other 0.1% to the owner to finish off and 'personalise' the car.

Thats supposed to be the service that the dealer should do.

Pre Delivery Inspection, its called that for a reason.

£40K should see it leaving the dealers in an absolutely pristine fashion, never mind an extra £250 on top. Its exactly this lazy attitude thats buggering TVR on the comparitive stage.

Yep, Castle did this thorough handover too, although I didn't appreciate it so much at the time as I just kept thinking "hurry up and give me the keys!"

Is it just me?

Why would a dealer bother with a marque like TVR if they didn't want to do a 110% job of keeping their customers happy???

I know some dealers have gone indie for various reasons, but the likes of those (I'm thinking Fernies) and the newer dealers (I'm thinking Racing Green) all exude a passion for the cars and would appear to want to bend over backwards to deliver above average service.

Well you would think so wouldnt you, as I said before, I think the sales staff are that way inclined, but the workshop are not in the case or my dealer. The factory is only 200 miles from me here anyway, somwhat closer that my dealer.

We bought our first TVR (Tuscan) from Racing Green in April this year. We have experienced a few problems with it but Racing Green fixed everything for us with no questions asked and made sure that we had other transport. They also took about 45 mins to go over the car with us before we drove it away.We have the salesmans mobile number and have had to use it on a Sunday in an emergency and he helped us to sort the problem out over the phone. This is the sort of service that you should get from a TVR dealer.

i think both factory and dealer are at fault.

the factory shouldn't let any car go to a dealer that has trim hanging off(other thread) and screens that don't fit!the PDI for the dealer should just be about making sure everything works and that the bodywork/paint is 100% and tidying up minor issues.
a dealer shouldn't have to piss about sticking trim together and trying to make things fit!

on the other hand there is no way a dealer should hand over the keys to the customer with these issues,no way!i mean do they really think you would come back again?doesn't say a lot for your customer service!

its just not good enough from factory or dealer

TVR are producing some terrifically exciting cars, like no other but they leave us and the dealers to finish them off. And if your dealer is not up to scratch, like quite a few of them, then you end up with situations like this. After 16 years of TVR ownership I expect to get the badly fitted items and trim falling off etc but not from a brand new car after a PDI from a dealer. Its an outrage really! The really sad thing is this sort of stuff happened 20 years ago and it still happens in 2004...sad. This is a bad dealer and I would not allow them near the car. Imagine the damage they could cause to all the expensive stuff under that screwed down bonnet!! Scary!!
