Polish plane makes an emergency landing at Warsaw airport

Looks like a landing gear failure. Reports are that it was circling for an hour dumping fuel (BBC).

That is top flying...the pilots are heroes!

To bring the plane that low, drop very slowly, keep the momentum and delay the engine catching on the ground. That is a top class emergency landing.

Not really a question of luck. The flight crew did their job well, the aircraft coped with an eventuality which would have been allowed for in its design and the ground staff dealt with the situation in a competent manner.

So how will they repair that? I'm assuming it's not going to be a hull loss but it doesn't look like a "couple of new patch panels" either!

Ah yes. Was it Qantas who took great pains to try to conceal the extent of damage and cost of repairing a 744 that ran off the end of the runway at Bangcock? IIRC, it could/should have been a write off but was repaired so they could still say 'we have never lost an aircraft in an accident' ?
