Hello,

Please bear with me this is my second ever post..

I have a Porsche 993 C2 that is in need of restoration and will be spending a month in the bodyshop during January whereby the car will be completely striped and resprayed.

I realise this might not be to everyones liking but I want to upgrade the look of my car to the widerbody model C2s / C4s.

I am aware I can purchase the split rear spolier grill from design 911 but is anybody aware if it is possible to widen the arches so my car will look like a wide body model? I realise this involves changing bumpers also which I don't mind.

I have looked everywhere to see if I can buy anything to complete the "widebody" look but to no avail. I do not simply want to bolt a kit over the arches as I have seen in some pictures I want it to look exactly like a S model.

Obviously now the car is going to go through such a change now is the ideal time to make these alterations.

I do not want to get rid of my car because it has been with me for years so trading up isn't something I want to do.

I realise many people will perhaps not like this suggestion but any help would be great (if it is even possible).

Many thnaks

You'll need new sills as well as arches. I can get my head around going for a GT2 look, with bolt-on arches etc, but I don't think what you're after is a good idea at all. Look at it this way, if you're going to spend £15-20k doing it properly, to end up with a bitsa b@stard then you'd be better off buying a widebody car that's been built properly as that by the factory.

Exactly.

Rather than just me saying 'sell the NB and buy a WB - there I've saved you 15k' instead I'll ask 'what is wrong with the bodywork of your NB?'

Is it just the screen apertures? A few hundred pounds to the right bodyshop and job done (OK say 800 pounds)

What they said it really makes no sense. If money is no object then throw away. You'll need new front wings, sill sections and widen the rear wings. A job that very few bodyshops in my opinion could do well. Good luck mate and I hope you are not dissapointed with the result. Resale, well forget it

I didn't appreciate this would be such a big job. After the posts so far think I will stay nb. I certainly do not want each corner removing completely and replacing. I was hoping a kit might be available but seems not.

I have just started the clean up of my C2. Never considered trying to change it. Each Indie I took it to said the same thing, "keep it original". I am spending my money on new wheels, calipers, shocks, every lense and rubber, and then full bear metal respray!

What sort of money is involved to change all the lenses, rubbers/seals and then have a full respray?

Well dependant on the state of the bodywork, ie rust issues etc, I'd say not much change from £8K including the vodka and tonic.

Ninemeister in warrington have converted quite a few narrow body cars to widebody cars. Don't know if they have done it on a 993 but Im guessing they could.

Wouldnt be cheap mind in fact it would be cheaper to sell it and buy a C4s I imagine.

Its your car do what you want. I wouldnt but dont listen to us.

If you have the time, please do keep us informed of your progress. Particulary when the time comes for the respray; it's something I'm interested in having done at some point, and it's always great to hear of other owners experiences. Do you have a timescale for the respray, and will you be changing the colour?

The car has gone in for refurbished calipers all round, new front shocks, central wheel caps fitted and taking on four newly refurbished alloys - the original 17inche wheels. I have also got an original set of lenses and lamps all round except headlamps and every rubber and gromet ready for the respray. This is all through a north west indie at about £5k and will be ready by 18 november. On 21 november the car goes for a three week body job. This is take all rust and dents to bear metal (currently rust round front and rear windscreen, dents to bumpers and winfs and rear wheel arches) then repair, treat and prepare whole car for respray. This cost is £3k. So for a total of £8k which I thought better value than trade in for an unknown 911 with lower mileage. I will keep you posted.

So is the full bare metal respray only 3k?

Of the 5k how much of this is the lenses and rubbers/seals?

Blimey that respray and bodywork sounds cheap. Who's doing it?

The rubbers are £1100 plus vat and the lenses and lamps £800 plus vat.

The respray is being done by a company called Heatons in Bamber Bridge - I have seen their work and it very good. i was qoted £6k by OPC dealer. I checked the cheaper price with an indie and they said that was about right. To be clear it is not a FULL bare metal respray. The bad parts, and there are a lot, will be taken down, the rest preaperd and whole car respray and lacquered.

It would be great if you could quote the part numbers and prices - for other 993 owners reference :O)

Doesn't an OPC paint job come with a "lifetime" guarentee though?

To be fair £3k does sounds about right.... Can't wait to see the results.
