Today's Autocar has an article about the Tuscan R - they've ridden "shotgun" in a car they call close to production spec. Well, apart from running a standard "S" engine (390bhp) and standard 5 speed 'box that is.

The production car should have about 440 bhp and a 6 speed sequential transmission.

Still, the body and chassis are carbonfibre and the whole thing should weigh less than 1000kg.

TVR are expecting to make only about 25 cars a year, so perhaps they'll have no problem selling them at £75k a pop.

I know it's supposed to top 200mph, but I still think they've given it an ugly butt (necessary for the groundeffect).

And I'll personally shake the hand of and buy a beer for any man who's brave enough to drive it at that speed.

Surley it would be better to gear it for better acceleration instead of so much top end, but I guess it's the big numbers that settle pub arguments. And don't call me Shirley.

I did hear - and I don't know how true it is. That TVR offered the Speed 12 up against the McLaren F1 but the challenge was denied. Consequently the F1's stated top speed is 240mph and TVR quoted 240+mph for the 12.

Anybody care to confirm or deny?

I re read some of the Autocar Glossy mag (the made a little book) that came free with the weekly mag at about the time of the launch of F1 - It's amazing stuff. When it was launched all I wanted was an F1 - and still do it really is an amazing car. Espically as it has one seat for the driver and then two passenger seats one for the GF and one for the wife!

Top end performance figures these days are getting

It doesnt seem like that long ago that Ferrari were rejoicing because they got the F40 to be the first production road car to top 200! Now its 235, 250, wheres it going to stop!?!?!?

When they run out of roads long enough to get to those speeds

True or not, the speed 12 never made it into production hence any figures achieved by the 12 would be irrelevant. It's not a badly disguised race car, it *is* a race car.

Think I'd be happier in the passenger seat - and then only if, eg, David Coulthard wsa driving it ...

Actually, I think it's the white astramax van 'MIB spec' that always seems to pass me at mach 10 on the M40 - I'm assuming the smoke cloud is the afterburner

Just been looking at the 2000 Birmingham Motor Show piccies on this site - TVR really should revert back to the rear lights on the prototype (adds more balance to the rear end).
