New Kid on the block with Paint Question
Discussion
Hi everyone. I am new to TVR ownership and have just bought a brand new Chamelion blue Tuscan S. I have been reading this forum for the last few months and it has helped me so much in understanding these beasts. One thing that I cannot find on this forum is problems with paintwork on delivery of new vehicle. As a whole there is nothing visible to the eye unless you inspect closer. There are a few very small scratches to bare metal particulary near the roof edges. Should this be happening or is there no excuse because after all "this is TVR" Should I demand for resprays...

Hi - and congratulations on your purchase.
Do you mean that paint is rubbing off where the roof meets the bodywork? If so, this is not unheard of and can be remedied by fitting antisqueal tape to the leading edge of the roll bar hoop. Just a bit confused as you say down to bare metal, and the car (as I'm sure you know) is made of fibreglass?
Any scratches should be dealt with as a courtesy by your dealer, especially if they have been there since you collected the vehicle.

Hi
No, the Tuscan body work is glass reinforced polyester (GRP) i.e. fibreglass all round. It is really common to get nicks, scratches etc on the roll bar's leading face because the roof panel rubs against it. This can happen when fitting the panel in, or just from driving around and the body flexing enough to rub paint on paint.
If it does not have it already, your dealer can fit a length of 3M tape across the roll bar's edge. This is dry, but has a very slippery surface to it. Therefore when the roof's edge meets the roll bar surface, the tape sits in between, protects the paint, and stops any annoying squeaks. A similar technique is used on the back window by fitting this anti-squeal tape to the top-inside edge, and a length of velco to the top-outside edge. I'd get this done (should be free) by your dealer to protect the paint and stop any squeals, squeeks etc before they start!
The roof panel on the Tuscan is (IIRC) made from fibreglass - but those on a Chimaera are made from carbonfibre.
Hope this helps...
