original plan was V8S and convert outbuilding into garage.

new plan is get car I can leave on drive. A TVR V8S would not appreciate being sat in the rain, and it wouldn't be fair on the car - it'll have to wait.

Will an Elise be alright out there, or would that suffer too? I want an entertaining sports car, rear wheel drive and not a hotted up saloon.

Anyone any other ideas?

Leaving an Elise out in the rain would also not be a great idea, unless you fancy having a good looking, aluminium cold water bathtub. You could always get a hardtop of course...

My Chimaera has spent the past year sat outside without any problems whatsoever.
Still...Must get that bloody garage built!

In this day and age I would not suggest leaving anything outside due to the amount of scroats around. If you can, put it in a garage.

As long as you have a good fitting roof, an elise will be fine outside. Mine spends a lot of time outside and will occasionally leak a little in torrential rain but thats about it. The only thing that can rust is the heat shield above the exhaust manifold. With a hardtop, you would have no problems at all (other than bird sh*t!).

Don't know about V8S - but plenty of Chimaera outside here in London. You can use a hood cover to protect the roof from bird sh1te and other evils - but you'll have to fit it carefully to avoid minor scratch to the paintwork.

[vested interest] You can pick up a bloody nice Porsche 928 for £16k . . . and they take being outside quite well [/vested interest]

Or a 944 Turbo SE or 944 S2, or even a 968. Or how about something Jap, like a Supra Turbo?

Zeb,

Get the V8S. They don't leak if the hoods in good nick and you can always buy a cover.

Agree. A hat (or cockpit cover, as they're officially known) will keep 95% of the H2O out.

I would have thought you could buy a V8S and have a garage built for £16K, believe me, been there, done that, garage obviously before the car

My Chimaera's stood outside for 3 years now, and other than the odd leak it's been fine, its even spent a few days up in the air on 4 axle stands and no one even tried nicking the wheels!
It always helps to be on nodding terms with the local scrotes, they don't nick from there own back yard, and try to come over like a bit of a gezzer, if they think they are going to get a kicking if they touch your motor they tend to leave it alone, oh and get a good alarm, preferably with a proximity sensor!

cheers, good idea raceboy - having seen your car at Donington I can't believe it sits outside!

Christ, I can't believe how many times I'm changing my mind about what to get, but the V8S it has to be. Where can I find one of these hood cover things?
