S2 Ride Height? Whats right?

Hi,

I have just put on a set of coilovers and wondered what the ride height really should be, rather than settle with what it was before -

Is there a correct measurement to the bottom of the chassis from the floor at the front and rear that anyone knows of?

The info I had when replacing mine was front chassis to floor 175mm and 190mm rear. That said, when I set mine to this, the trim heights were all over the place so I reverted to centre of wheel to wheel arch to get them all level. May be my block paving not perfectly level but seems OK now.

With all the bumps and speed ramps I guess about 10" or so, I have set mine at 150mm

why not try a search?

i have had no end of problems whenever i used search - 'its down', 'no results' - so i didnt bother this time. thanks for the reminder, i'll give it a go

sometimes search is not your best friend, it don't work all the time.

Off topic but whilst SEARCH has been mentioned, how do you make it work? I can never get it to be specific enough. Enter 'ride hight' just get loads of answers all over the whole Piston Heads site or nothing. Is it me!!!

Go to search, go to the advanced search in small blue letters, type in what you want then go to general gassing to refine your search just scroll down to the part you want

That is a very bad idea. The body flexes all over the place is isn't remotely symmetrical to start with. The ONLY sensible way to measure ride height is to the chassis, and even for that to make any sense you need to be on flat level ground. The naked eye can't tell you whether the ground is flat enough for this, you need to use a level.

You should set both front adjusters to the same position and both rear adjusters to the same position. This will give you a car that is level from side to side. If you do this and your car is NOT level from side to side, there is a major mechanical fault such as a bent chassis - or you are not on flat level ground.

I have always known that my car sits lower on the drivers side. The car is on its original Konis and has covered 70,000 miles. Readings are front left 175mm, right 160mm, rear left 187mm right 175mm. Measured in the garage but cannot guarantee that the floor is billiard table flat, but does give an indication. And yes it does not like speed bumps and yes I do take FB sized clothes! You can feel the suspension running out of travel on the lanes.

So it looks like the springs are shot and these are not available any more. Would like to buy a set of GAZ golds, certainly should do something before Belgium, but an expense I would rather avoid if possible. Any other suggestions?

I’ve never found “Search” very helpful. Eg earlier this afternoon I put in Nitron + TVR + S + Series and it produces “Not Found”. Now we know that’s not right. I’ve just tried that search again in case it was an anomaly. This time the result is “Sorry, something's not quite right”. And “The technical team have been notified”.
Maybe PH could carry out a user survey to see how members feel about it?

Three hits!!!! Select advanced search, put nitron in the search box and select the S Forum and hit search!!!!!!

its amazing what people charge to take the stuff you dont need away these days............

planned to measure mine today and have a fiddle - but got distracted by a household electrical fault that turned out to be a waste water pump in the garden, putting me at risk of a back up until i get it replaced.....
