Hi all,

I work in Holborn, Central London and as a reward for some work I did recently, my boss has kindly said he'll pay for a posh meal for me + my other half anywhere I like in London. I know plenty of good restaurants around but as this is something a bit special I wasnted to push the boat out a bit and go somewhere like the OXO Tower with some nice views/good food etc. A friend of mine told be about the restaurant at the top of the Gherkin but I think you need to be a member to go there (no idea how you become one?!) Are there any other good restaurants of this ilk which would be good for some good nosh and some nice views of the city?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Nick

Galvin at Windows has really good food, and also great views of the city (well it is 28 floors up!).

I think you've got both the view options covered there.

Depends if the view or the food is more important. Gavroche was the first 3star in the country (now 2) but is in a basement. You have 2 three star places, Ramsay on Royal Hospital Road and Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester neither have a view.

I'd decide on food and budget (unlimited?) then if you get a view - bonus.

It's always nice when it is a special occasion and you get to take the missus up the OXO tower.

It is good, but it's not up to Le Gavroche or similar.

Why not book in to Vertigo for drinks and the view the jump in a cab to somewhere really decent for food?

Close to where you work would be Pearl, and I think Tanaka is still there. Not much of a view though.

My favourite was Maze, but I don't think Atherton is still there. Not much of a view, either, unless you like grass.

If you want good food and a view try Pont de la Tour.

Don't go near the OXO.

Coq d'Argent - right by Bank station.

This place is good in the heart of The City. On the top floor and has a roof garden where you can have drinks before the meal. You can also eat outside all year round as they have a heated, covered terrace.

I've been a few times now and the food has always been faultless.

Easy to get to from Holborn too.

Mon Plaisir in Covent Garden. Can't remember the street but it's near The Ivy, which I think is vastly overrated IMHO.

Mrs and I had the tasting menu in there on Saturday night, it was very good, the wine to go with it was excellent also.

Have eaten at Ramseys place and various other Michelin restaurants, it was well up there with the very best of them.

The service was very slick but not overwhelming and the view/ location were nice extras.

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, but then I havnt been to the other places mentioned.
