When i go to the States i devour the blue cheese sauce, lovely with celery and wings. Over there its a significant staple it appears.

Here it seems to not even exist. I did get a recipe off the net and tried making some myself. It was good but not as good, it was also very expensive, one single dip ended up costing me a fiver or so. Not going to break the bank but a couple of times a week its a bit much.

So what are my options? can i get it here? am i looking in the wrong places or do i have to stick to making it myself?

And any other blue cheese lovers here?

I like a little blue cheese in small doses. I adore extra mature cheese that you can buy from farmers markets.......

Devon blue cheese sauce, found in many pubs around Dartmoor area and served with chips or burgers. It is f*****g wonderful stuff, I positively seek it out and struggle to resist ordering some on the side whatever my main course is.

Varies a bit from place to place mind. Easy enough to make a similar thing, i use Deilas cheese sauce recipe with lots of whatever nice blue I can find at the time smile

Sadly i think it will be too thin as its a dressing. The stuff i'm talking about is thick clog your veins up USA cheese dip.

Initially i thought it could be something to do with their dairy product being banned over here (or at least i think it is). But surely its just stilton?

Maybe its one of those things which the UK audience just wouldn't buy but i cant see why not.

OP, completely on the same page.

Not much help, but I did once find a jar of some ok-ish stuff in Tesco, although as mentioned it was a bit dressing-y.

Ranch is also a bit thin on the ground over here - blue Doritos are actually ranch flavour, but I guess as no one knows what that is here they changed the name to 'Cool'.

I did try. It came out quite well but its pretty expensive for what it is. About a fivers worth of ingeredients and i assume its not something which will last too long.

I bought some from Sainsburys for this exact purpose, it was greatly reduced at the deli counter down to about 40p per 100g.

I have made it a couple of times with Roquefort and normally just add it to a white sauce made from a roux, but I have some cream left over from making a (failed) mousse so may just add the cheese to heated cream.

Sainsburys are VERY good at the moment for reducing cheese and meat at it's deli counter.

I love blue cheese dressing and I agree it seems you can't buy it in the UK. I imagine the one I like is in the style of what the OP is looking for I first came across this at the HardRock in the mid 70's (crikey that's 35 years ago eek) as a salad dressing with my burger.

I have successfully recreated that dressing with a 50/50 mix of crème fraîche & mayonnaise (Hellmann's) into which I crumble Roquefort cheese - I find Roquefort mixes better than Stilton because it's "wetter" doesn't require much else to be honest (certainly no roux and no cooking) but I always add black pepper because I'm addicted. smile

Yours sounds more like a cold sauce or a dip, the one I make is warm and I put it on steaks or jacket potatoes

Agree completly.

Love nothign more than hot spicy wings with a lovely blue cheese dip.

But nowhere seems to sell it over here frown

Resorted to making my own,

Soft blue cheese,
Sour cream
Blob of mayo
Dash of lemon juice

Mix it all together and chill

Its nice but like you say - a bit expensive for somethign that doesn't last all that long.
