My first weekends riding!
Discussion
wow, what a weekend! Yesterday did about 50 miles on roads i know, got used to overtaking traffic and did a bit of filtering. All good fun. Today came the real fun though. Two mates came over, one with a CBR1100 Super Blackbird, the other with a GS500. Did a few miles, overtaking cars so easily - it astounds me just how easily its possible to overtake cars, they may as well be stationary. Many moved over for us too. We came to our first traffic jam, single carriageway and just stopped - so whenever there was a gap in traffic, we just hopped past. Again, many people moved over for us. Id say we got to our destination a good 20minutes earlier due to being on the bikes. Unbelievable. Then we went over to one of the lads houses, where he had a spare Micron colour banded Titanium Oval race exhaust - for a Bandit. £125 to you sir - bargain. We tried to fit it, but sadly we need a shin to go over the end of the link pipe - luckily theres one on my present exhaust and it will come off, so ill pop over to his house tomorrow and get it. We slipped the can on though and started her up - my god, what a glorious noise!!! It sounds superb!! I cant wait to get it fitted. I made another mod to the bike yesterday too - a kmh-mph converter, so now i know how fast im going, which has improved my confidence no end - i can actually relax and enjoy the ride now without worrying about whether im speeding in 30s etc.
All in all, a crackin' weekends riding - ive still got chicken strips on the tyres, but theyre only about a centimetre or so wide on the front. I cant see how big they are on the back. Ive learned a load - i made (at least) one mistake - i filtered past traffic (slowly) and suddenly realised there was a junction to my right. There was noone waiting to go in it, but someone could easily have suddenly got bored with sitting in a jam and tried to do a u turn, so slap on the wrist for me there.
I also swapped bikes with my mate with the GS500 - now i learned on one of these, but it felt really alien compared to my Bandit. Not nice at all.
Anyway - this biking lark seriously rocks!!

I just nearly came off!!!! Turning into my road, at about 5mph - woman comes flying up, i realise ive taken it a bit wide (as there was noone to be seen when i started to manouvre), so i stupidly grab a handful of front brake - lock the front wheel and nearly come off. Thankfully i got a foot down and managed to stop.
Bloody scary though - and petrol tanks really arent made for bashing your nuts against either are they?! Ouch.

Hmmm, the best thing to do would not to have got myself in that situation in the first place though!
Mind you, the look on that womans face as i headed for her door was a picture - i look pretty evil in my blue tinted visor - had i had the visor up, she'd have seen how f@ckin petrified i was!!

LOL Yeh you might be right about point 2
Definately learn from it. This learning curve looks a little steep though, and with any luck it wont involve me throwing the Bandit down the road.
TBH it can only be a good thing - after a weekends riding (at quite high speed) i think maybe i needed a kick in the pants to say "oi, take it easy - you're vulnerable on that thing".
Live n learn.
