Stone roses tribute band - yay or nay?

What are peoples thoughts on tribute bands? I'm off to watch The Total Stone Roses and Oaysis in Manchester in 2 weeks, really looking forward to it judging from the videos. Check this out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDAtFDjwPnE

I didn't buy the over priced roses reunion tickets - but this should be a decent night out. Anybody else seen The Totals or Oaysis live?

The best ones are pretty good, as long as you take it for what it is and buy into the "have a good time" atmosphere. Depends also whether the original artist is still around.

I used to be in a Gary Numan covers band and we played more of his early stuff (when he was playing his later stuff). People who saw us enjoyed it but many just think its a bit of a sappy idea to start with.

As already said, when done well they can be very very good (Australian Pink Floyd etc). Enjoy.

A bunch of mates and I were going to form our own tribute band many moons ago. We were gonna call ourselves The Clone Roses (had probably bindun). Fronting the band was Ian Strangely Brown, on guitar was John Alright Squire, bass was Mani Holecover and on drums Reni Rapeze. Sadly it never took off.

Get drunk, have a laugh, you'll have a great time. I think the only people that wouldn't would be the powerfans/geeks/aholes analysing every gesture and word to see how like the original the singer is.

Certainly has. I saw them about a month ago at Glastonferry (actually a small one day festival by the river Mersey), and after a good few beers I thought they were pretty good.
