...and how easy is this to get - whether from the UK, or when you land in Dubai?
For a short break in December/Jan.

Thanks in advance for all advice! smile

Based on personal experience, I'd recommend avoiding being in Dubai during the period of the Russion festval of the "Old" New Year which lasts maybe a week and takes place around 13 January each year.

When we went at that time maybe 75% in our hotel and in town were Russians there for the event. They pay full prices, don't barter so everything is a lot more expensive than usual. They also took over most of the facilities in and outside the hotel (think Germans, maybe!). The amount of vodka consumed was immense..I know, I got involved!!

Russians on holiday do have an intersting dress style...why do the females wear high heels to the pool or beach, for example?

you will need a visa and there are a few ways to get one.

if you have a hotel pre-booked then the hotel can act as your sponsor and will arrange the visa you will need to talk to them or your travel agent.
there is a 96hr short stop visa which can be arranged via your hotel or if you fly emirates they can arrange one
if you are staying longer than 96 hrs and do not have a hotel booked you will need to apply for an online visa which you can do via the Emirates site even if not flying on them.

check info

here on the emirates site

Funny. I've lived here 5 years and never noticed.
