Building a Garage?

Has anyone out there had a garage built recently? Roughly how much would it cost to build a flat roof garage measuring 3m x 9m.

The cost will depend on a number of things – how do you want to construct it.
Blockwork rendered or facing brick, cavity or single skin, insulated or not and the roof coving – felt or a single membrane type covering.

It would be attached to the side of an existing property, so three sides. Block with brick facing (hadn't considered cavity insulation but it it helps keep baby warm then maybe ), with a profiled alluminium roof (I hate felt!). The rear 3m will be an extension to the kitchen so that will need to be properly insulated and mean an internal block wall running the width of the structure.

I'm thinking of moving and am trying to work out whether it would be worth building a garage on property which doesn't have one or holding out for one which already has a garage.

PS - anyone want to buy a house!

A ballpark cost would be £250 - £300 per square metre [depending on where you live], possibly a little less given that your using an existing wall for part of the structure. You could cut the cost by supplying the materials yourself and employing the trades/labour directly.

manage the project your self thats what i did built mine for £10k with electric roller door and two upvc doors 36x14 ft finished.

What sort of roof trusses did you use? Did they allow you any roof space?

its a cut roof so i do have loft space great for storing stuff the trusses are 7x2 heres a couple of pics so u can see nige.

I had mine built about 4 years ago, 2 sides, flat room, and a load of work inside on the existing side part of the house, make sure you offer cash to get the price down, and agree to a timescale for the job.

all in it cost around £9k including electrics, and remote operated roller door.(plus giving in to the mrs and losing another 2m on the garage length so she could have a utility room

How on earth did you get that for 10k without doing it all yourself?

the base was already there from the old garage just extended it, all the block work was done by my mate who was out of work at the time and i was on the mixer,basicaly i supplied all the materials and paid cash for every thing
its not what u know its who u know these days, if i had a builder to do it from scratch it would have cost me nearer £17k so if u dont mind doing a bit of hard work and manage it your self u can save a lot of money in the long run nige.

I used 'Lidget' garages and am pleased with their cost and construction. Removed the old one myself and did all the ground work. The new one was 3 foot longer and 2 foot wider and came in at approx £2300 ish. Took 2 guys about 3 hours to erect. One of the few jobs I actually started and finnished in a few weeks, amazing how the promise of a new TVR can motivate a man.
