illegal and also farcical. imagine the scenario, indian doctor comes to the UK, does 4 1/2 years of sterling work for the NHS, gets caught speeding (nothing serious, say 85 on the motorway)...... gets deported.

I am sick of this "coming over here, taking our jobs/benefits" mentatlity that sits in this country. governments need to look at how they have allowed an entire generation of Brithsh born individuals to piss away a free education, become dependant upon a welfare state and now this petition is seemingly supporting them when they claim they cant get a job because its foreign nationals taking "their" jobs, not that they either have the eduication, the skills or the inclination to take any of these jobs however....

on the news last night they were in swindon interviewing feral scum who were out of work, 18-20 yeaers old. some had been unemployed for well over a year. now i appreciate that swindon isnt the hotbed of employment but all of these people who were so desperate for a job had pink shaved heads etc etc..... poor lambs, get a proper haircut, buy a cheap suit and join the real world....

as for the second comment of criminals entering this country, i wonder how many famous people or people you respect would fall foul of that rule.... footballers, musicians, actors....

Is speeding an offence or a crime? Illegal certainly, but for some reason I didn't think that was criminal.

if ciriminality and an offence are subtle different then i understand the confusion with the speeding thing, i was trying to think of a petty crime that would result in deportation...

is this thread anything to do with the Daily Wail front page today perchance?

Why only 5 years? Until you take a citizenship test then you are in the country as a guest - failing to abide by our laws (no, not speeding rolleyes) wins you a one way ticket to fkoffistan. No appeal, no human rights, just adios muchachos, and take your pissing cat with you.

Those are two rather different things you have put together. People tend to look far more favourably on people who have come here to work. Meanwhile in some immigrant communities reliance on benefits is far higher than the UK average. Propensity to crime tends to be higher as well in those communities as well so the measure in the OP would tend to get rid of some of the problem 'parasite' immigrants.

Sticks.

Are there some stats for that? Thanks.

Make it easier.
If you claim benefits as an immigrant in your first 5 years in the coutry you get deported.
Surely that'll solve the problem and also the symptoms (the alleged increased crime from this group of people)

If we take the Somali Community for example employment rates are 40.1 percent for men and 9.6 percent for women, which is a long way below the UK average.

That's Somali community, not immigrants. Most of them probably have British Citizenship.

confused

Whether they have British citizenship or not does not change the country of birth which is how we are defining 'immigrant' surely. As the article said 'an estimated 108,000 Somali-born immigrants' in 2010.

There has been a lot of digression already on this short thread, but pablo hit the nail on the head in the second post (whether or not speeding would count as a criminal offence) smile

This petition is typical of the wooly-mindedness that so many people have. "Wouldn't it be a good idea to kick out all the immigrants who have broken the law?" Sounds good, doesn't it? Then start looking at the practicalities.

Apologies in advance - for almost a quarter of a century of my working life I have been the poor sod charged with taking "strategy" and "policy" from Directors of companies I worked for and translating those into practical courses of action to get those strategies and poicies implemented. That's why I spout off on here so often about practicalities smile

Firstly, how do you define "immigrant?" Is an octegenarian who came here in 1955 to work on the buses still one? If he/she is (despite the fact they might have got British Nationality 40+ years ago) and they make a mistake on their benefit claim and get done for "benefit fraud" does that mean we put 'em on the next boat out of Southampton?

Perhaps you say "OK, anybody who hasn't got British Citizenship is an "immigrant." Then you'll probably find somebody who got their "papers" through last week and then decides to knife somebody outside the pub at the weekend. What do you do with them?

Secondly, I'll hazard a guess (and putting this is tactfully as possible) that you'll find a number of people signing such a petition who think that anybody who isn't white caucasian is an "immigrant" If they do, they'll be unpleasantly surprised to find that individual, whose grandparents came to the country 50 years ago, is as "British" as me (in fact probably more so - my father came from the ROI smile ).

So leaving the legalities to one side because pablo has already mentioned them, it isn't as straightforward as might be imagined at first sight.

I won't be signing wink

But they'll have been here since the early 90s. Immigrants in the last 5 years mainly come from Eastern Europe so they would be the ones affected by the ruling as stated by the E-Petition. Also Bing O was mentioning about how they are guests of this country until they have British Citizenship at which point they won't be deported. I was pointing out that Somali's will mainly be British citizens as the majority came over 20 years ago.

Indeed with only 2 out of the 3 that have reached over 100,000 being not only discussed but implemented...

Which are the three, and which are the two being implemented?

Thanks
