Has anyone else noticed the white RCS Transit vans on top of the M3 motorway over the past few weeks.
They seem to have a rear side window in the back of the van from which they are monitoring something.
Someone told me that they have seem policemen getting in and out of them. Is it some kind of trial speed trap?
Anyone know any more?

Yes - I know the one you mean - I see it every day. Can't remember where it sits, but it's always there.. If you drive the stretch from 6 to 3 you'll see it.. I think between Fleet Services and 4a.
Anyway, here's my theory: Every time there's been an accident on the M3, that van has been in attendance and there have been lanes coned off big time. Their RCS logo stands for Rapid somethingorother Service - Contruction IIRC.
My conclusion is therefore that they are contracted by Hampshire police as a rapid response unit to sit on standby for any accident whereupon they can be deployed to chuck out hundreds of cones and temporary signs. Hence the whole situation can be managed safely and quickly. This is good for the police in getting the motorway closed and opened again quickly and good for users of the M3, which is (touch wood) a damned smooth (and fast) running motorway for the most part, in terms of low incident frequency and predictable traffic flows - especially compared to the M4 which to judge by the traffic news is a daily hell.
Oh and I have a mate who's been driving under them at between 90 & 100 for months now...

Yep, saw them last night at 6pm, saw it again this morning at 8am. Then saw a sign saying there is 15 weeks of raodworks starting there in June. Oh joy!
Most works on the M3 are done overnight etc..
And the last time they put a sign like that up, they were just erecting sound deflectors between the Mway and nearby houses between 7 & 6 - that sign said 'delays possible'..
CarZee - usual stuff, 15 weeks, delays expected, blah blah blah!!! doesn't actually say WHAT is being done though. Hopefully will be at night.
Ironic thing is, I live in Fleet and work in Egham (M3 A30 to get there & back) and the longest part of my journey is getting out of FLeet onto the M/Way (and home again!) where it is (usually!) free flowing!

I Have not been on the M3 but all i can say is last year on the M4 the white van that was sitting on bridges was the filth with speeding equipment inside the first i new about it was 6 weeks later when it came through the post not only once but they got me coming back as well then the B-----ds had the cheek to say on the local news they have collected £40,000 that week on fines 85mph they caught me doing in th tiv just glad the road was a bit busy.
but no wonder the crime rates are high when the filth are sitting on bridges making £40,000 a week (and yes before all you do-gooders start shouting i was breaking the law by speeding)

Bummer.
Shouldn't they have NIP'd you within 14 days since you were not stopped at the time (or were you?)?
