My car never made it to Le Mans, the slave cylinder went at Folkstone and so it never got on the Chunnel.

WHA have athorised the repair, which is good, but another probelem has been spotted.

Excessive oil use!!

My car had its full £24k service in March, it used quite a bit of oil then but a couple of leaks were found and fixed, so thought nothing of it.

Being wet and horrible it stayed in the garage most of the time.

It then had its MOT in May and whilst at the dealer I got them to top up all the levels prior to my Le Mans trip.

I then only used it a couple of times, for short runs before a trip to the Motor Show on the 2nd of June. Where It stretched its legs for a pre Le Mans Blat.

At speed the oil light started to flicker, but the oil pressure was ok, so I topped it up with the oil I was carrying (about 1ltr) and the next day took it to the dealer. Where it took a further 3 litres .

They asked me to monitor the consumption closely.

As I never got out the country and it is now at APM, I asked Andy to check the levels and It took another 3 litres after only 333 miles.

Andy's diagnosis is worn/streched valve guides.

This would be understandable on a 24k Tuscan S, but last March it was rebuilt at 18k by TVR Power for the same reason before I bought it.

Any ideas where I can go from here?

What are my chances of not forking out the £2400 it will cost to fix?

WHA will do nothing if the word "Worn" is used!

I would talk to TVR power as I would expect them to last longer than that, if they replaced them a year ago. The only other consideration would be environmental conditions.....

I would suggest that with Andy, you are already in extremely capable hands in progressing any possible recourse that you may have and in turn its subsequent repair.

Get TVR to repait it for free, it's not TVR powers fault. They use approved suppliers and the design dictated to them by TVR. These should last for 200Kmiles never mind 20K miles. Remember if somethings not designed properly in the first place the same problems will crop up again and again and again. New parts will also thus wear unfortunately.

A very similar thing happened to me (speed six Cerbera) and Andy was looking after it for me. I wrote a firm but polite letter to TVR and they contributed to the rebuild cost (note contributed not paid for!).

Mail me through my profile if you want any more info.

As above - make strong representation to the factory. They stand by the design, so I think they should pay!

Thank you all for your advice.

TVR Power are rebuilding for free, negotiated by TVR Centre. Sometimes things go right!!!!!

TVR ownership is full of ups and downs, but the Ups do outweigh the downs most of the time!

Cheers

Interesting... Mine's going in next week for the valve guides doing next week (it's getting through 1 part petrol to 1 part oil, too!)

I've been trying to get a definitive reason for the valve-guide wear - my warranty company will pay out if I can prove it's not an inherent defect. And if it IS an inherent defect, you'd think I shouldn't have to pay, right? So I'm still expecting a bill for £2k+...

I would agree with this, Andy does have a very good relationship with TVR Power. I'm a little suprised at the mention of Castle in all of this though later on .
