Hi guys,

Going away for the weekend leaving Friday morning.

Actually starting in Bournemouth County Court (business related) however have a hotel booked for Friday night in Portsmouth and then we're off to Brighton from Saturday.

Any recommendations on things to do and places to eat in the above two places?

Mrs wants fish and chips in Brighton during the day and as for a meal in Portsmouth on the Friday night, probably Indian/Chinese or Italian.

Thanks in advance!

What sort of fish and chips in Brighton you after?

Fancy = Fishy Fishy in the Lanes (co-owned by Dermot O'Leary TV blokey)

Very good = Bankers Restaurant (technically Hove, actually)

Tacky but somehow great fun (Chas & Dave playing over the speakers) = The Palm Court Restaurant on the Pier. Try their Big Fish. Might be £12 but it's frikin massive smile

If clients want fish and chips I take them to Bankers. If Im with Mrs Fubes and the Fubelings then we head for the Pier and Palm Court.

HTH.

For an Italian in Portsmouth try The Pizza House in Hilsea. Old friend of mine's dad ran that and I assume he is just as insane as when I knew him. Don't expect to leave sober and their tiramisu is god tier.

Oh, and they have just built the Brighton Wheel http://www.brightonwheel.com/ A smaller London Eye right on the beach. Cant guarantee it's actually open to the public yet but it was spinning around yesterday wobble

Then you have The Lanes (jewellery etc) and The North Laines (furniture/antiques), the Marina and the Volks Railway that runs 3/4 way from the Pier to the Marina

Does that apply just to Friday night or both nights?

Ah, apologies!

I'm not sure if we will stay for dinner in Brighton or not, but if we do it will be Chinese, Indian or Italian again, although something different from the Friday night!

Do you have any recommendations?

Komedia in brighton is great fun on a saturday night. They have an early (8pm) and a later (10pm) comedy club.
I've only been to the earlier one so I'll only recommend that one.

Get there at 7pm if you want front row seats, but be careful as the compere will pick on you a bit. Sit behind the stage lights if you want to guarantee not being asked a question.

None of the above, but I have a tenant who has a nice little restaurant that does French brasserie

http://www.cote-restaurants.co.uk/Cote_Brighton.ht...

The Breton Chicken with garlic butter is lick

Would be advisable to book on a Saturday night though, it gets rather busy.

Gotcha! Decent indians are a bit thin on the ground in Brighton, but the Chilli Pickle is excellent (but expensive). If you could stretch to Thai, I can't recommend the King and I highly enough and it's well located in the Lanes just off the seafront. As for Italian's, Strada is one of our faves even though it's a chain, otherwise, Pinnochio's is pretty good.

Gars is a good but expensive Chinese.

Or try Days Buffet...up to 200 dishes on offer and all you can eat for about £13. Quite a giggle.

Komedia is a good shout if you want entertainment included smile

Hell, I might have to join you... I'm hungry now rofl

I did try this on Sunday and as buffets go it was very good and my belly was very big(ger) afterwards.

Pinnocio's as a budget Italian is excellent and they still do their 3 courses for 10 quid. Pretty much always packed.

How far a drive is Brighton from Portsmouth? We are staying in the Hilton in Portsmouth to be specific.

Days buffet is kinda crowded. Not really much of a sense of privacy.

Roughly where is your hotel in Portsmouth?

Someone has suggested Hilsea Italian, which as I recall (from a long long time bad) was as bonkers as he suggested, but good food and good fun. But it's probably miles from where you're staying!

If you're in Southsea or near Gun Wharf there are plenty of places to eat there.
