Going to Venice - top tips?
Discussion
The wife and I are off to Venice on Thursday for a long weekend - does anyone have any tips for what we should be putting on the itinary (besides bedroom gymnastics)?
When we go to places like this we usually end up coming home having 'missed the point'
Any top tips would be appreciated, i.e. what to do, what not to bother with and any ideas as to where we should be eating out etc.
Thanks

Get a 3 day water bus pass, total bargain and you can hop on and off at your leisure.

we caught it a few years ago and was interesting/weird
The 'normal' Venice stuff is all good (although sometimes pricey) - if the weather is good and you're arriving by air, water taxi from the airport to your hotel is sooooo cool - especially as ours was an island anyway

3 days only...we went for a week and it was not enough time for us to do all we wished.

some random tips
if you can get a water taxi from the airport to your hotel, it's a few euros but a great entry to the city, even if the weather is crap.
Just wander round and pop in to random churches rather than queue for ages around San Marco. San Marco /Doges Palace are great but not worth queuing for hours if you are only there for the weekend.
Get on and off the bus randomly and get lost.
Food is very hit and miss so get on something like trip advisor. there are some very nice bars around the rialto market that are not very touristy.
There is a nice grill/pizza bar on San Polo square that I like. It serves loads of interesting beers, including Tenants super on draught which it describes as "a typical beer of Scotland". That always makes me laugh. Most places close early so it's not much of a late night place. There are lots of great small places. I like All'Arco and Rizzardini.
IMHO, just wander round, the places without the hordes are much better than those with.
It's f
k ME expensive, but I really like it.

Water taxi from the airport to a hotel is €100 plus. Unlike what desolate said, I don't consider this a few €s. However, it is a fabulous splurge thing to do!

Presumably you can get the water 'bus' from the airport rather than having your own taxi? Looking on Google maps it seems quite straight forward to get from either the bus terminous or railway station to our hotel by foot too if needs be.R.
We are staying at the Amadeus Hotel by the way.
Theoldfm,
Yes, you can get the water bus from Venice Airport to Venice, say St. Mark's Square. Then you can get a man at the Square to transport your baggage by trolly your hotel. Actually, when wife and I went to Venice we got the water bus from the airport etc, but we did get a water taxi back to the airport when we left.

You can, but it's a bus on the water, slow, uncomfortable, full of diesel fumes and rammed to the gills IME. We got the taxi back to the airport and it was well worth it.We are staying at the Amadeus Hotel by the way.
