Repainting Suspension Forks - Should I use Nitromors?
Discussion
Has anyone got any advice about removing paint from suspension forks?
I'm doing a bit of a winter project with an slightly neglected Boardman Comp hardtail I've bought for a song of my sister. It's got black Rock Shox Recon 351 U-turns, which are in good nick other than a few cosmetic scrapes and gouges. However, I thought it might be *fun* to strip them and repaint in a slightly less OEM colour. Yeti turquoise is the current #1 option
I've stripped the forks in preparation for a seal and oil change and the lowers feel ruddy light - could they be magnesium? If so, is this likely to be a problem when using Nitromors. I doubt it, but thought I'd see if anyone has experience of doing such work. I suspect I'll need to get a new coat of paint on pronto as I seem to recall, from GCSE chemistry, that it will corrode really quickly without a lacquer or paint coat.
Other than that the build is going great. I never appreciated how much fun completely stripping a bike and buying a load of bits on the Bay and CRC can be!

I did my Fox 32's recently, just sanded back the damaged area's, etch primed and the painted. It did cross my mind to use Nitromors, but it's a lot of work and they are bound to get damaged again anyway.

That looks like a very tidy job. I think I'll give the nitromors a go - just to see how the stuff works.
Weirdly, I've found myself looking round the flat for other objects that could do with a little less paint on them
