Mine is currently on Mobil 15/40 semi-synthetic oil for running in, and I could only get this from my dealer.

The normal Mobil 1 oil you can get from Halfords or Esso garages, but they don't seem to do the semi-synthetic oil.

The oil between 1000 and 6000 is cheap, cost me £6 from a dealer. Couldn't find it anywhere and used Mobil 1 (super semi I think it was called)

Got my 10/40 Semi Synth. from A1 MOTOR STORES. They sell Carlube, but also stock the identical 10/40 Semi Synth. own brand...made by Tetrosyl...the makers of....Carlube ! It was much cheaper too!

Don't go out and buy bucket loads in anticipation - mine didn't use any oil during the running in period.

Aaaaagghhh! How confusing, semi-synthetic, fully synthetic, 10w/40, 0w/40. Can anyone tell me which oil I should be using - once and for all

Id love to know just how many litres you need for an oil change?-my handbook says 6 litres, but on the tvr power website, the quote in the service price is for 11 litres-mind you,its only £4.50 a litre though

It depends what the dealer has put in, and the mileage of the car, but as a guide you should use the following:

0-1000 miles: running in oil
1000-6000 miles: 15/40 semi-synthetic (although it looks like some use 10/40 semi-synthetic)
6000+ miles: 0/40 synthetic

And for those of us running with dicky valve guides, etc. a slightly thicker mix beyond 6000 miles probably isn't such a bad thing; 0/40 is like tap water at temperature - can't be great for the engine!
