Any Italian speakers, please - road sign meaning
Discussion
Hi all.
I have used Google translate and asked 2 hotel receptionists when on holiday to Tuscany recently and got different answers each time.
So, if there are any Italian speakers or anyone with reliable knowledge of Italian traffic/road signs, then please will you let me know what this big sign on the far right means. I realise that it's days of the week.
I was recently in Italy (Siena) and whilst travelling around Tuscany (beautiful, btw!), I was paranoid about all the ZTL traffic zones and their corresponding fines...! and whilst I know that this sign for the road we drove down in our hire car was well outside the ZTL zone (about 2 miles outside), I wasn't sure if I was allowed to go up the road, but we went up anyway as it was the only way to our hotel. It was a perfectly normal road and I was there at about 6-30 pm on Thursday (if that helps with the signage). I'd be grateful to get the exact meaning of the sign in order to anticipate a fine from the car hire company or not.
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Jon

I don't speak Italian, but a quick Google & translate suggests it's anti-smog legislation, applicable to pre-Euro 2 compliant vehicles - which corresponds with the bottom of the sign. I can't imagine your hire car would fall under that category.

It's about pollution. Essentially if your car had a catalytic converter you don't need to worry.
the internet is so cool.

Hi, me again.
Many thanks for the info and for putting my mind at rest - hire car was a diesel - a new Ford C-Max, so it'll be ok.
I had one translation at the time from a hotel receptionist who drove that very route to work and he said it was a 'no parking' sign (bit of a worry if he's driving as it was quite clearly not that) and another who claimed that it was a no entry sign for cars and motorbikes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (again someone with a driving license)!
I knew that P/heads would come good. Thanks for not letting me down!
Oh and if you go to Tuscany, enjoy the totally mental driving and EVERYONE on the phone whilst tailgating a few inches from your bumper and looking at every road sign trying to spot the (often very small) ZTL signs......! Also, NO-ONE but NO-ONE obeys the speed limits, either. It is an amazing place, though. Great scenery, spectacular medieval towns and superb food.
Cheers,
Jon
