Would welcome/appreciate advice on which lens for a 60D

Hello.
Recently upgraded from a 400D to a 60D, and I have the following lenses already:
Canon 28-135mm IS USM
Canon 50mm f1.8
Tamron 90mm (for Macro)
Sigma 10-20mm
Canon 55-250mm
I'm approaching my 40th birthday and the Mrs is looking for gift ideas. I thought about adding an L lens to my kit (a 24-105mm f/4 L) to use as my general rarely-off-the-camera lens. Looking to purchase new, probably from digigood on eBay (thats where I bought my 60D and the transaction went smoothly). Current price on eBay is around £670 delivered which the Mrs seems fine with so thats my budget!
Most of my shots, certainly at the moment anyway due to weather + work commitments, are indoors, usually with low light (i.e. evening) and at reasonably close quarters so not entirely sure the 24-105 is a good choice. I use the 28-135mm IS USM as my general rarely-off-the-camera lens at the moment and I find it a bit limiting - I need something with a decent amount of zoom as my general lens, but something a bit wider at the short end.
So - what would your suggestions be?
Doesn't HAVE to be an L lens (I used to have a 100-400 L that was sold to DD on here due to a complete lack of use) but thought it would be nice to add an L to my kit, especially since it's supposed to be a 'milestone' birthday and it therefore kinda needs to be a lens that i'll get a fair amount of use (and enjoyment) out of.

Sounds to me like your best bet would be the ef-s 17-55 2.8. A stop faster then the 24-105 you were looking at which will help in low-light, very sharp, and widley regarded as probably the best ef-s lens. Its often said it would be an L lens if it wasn't ef-s.
You do pay a price though, almost £800 at the mo I think! more then some L glass!
- try an MPE65 and become a macro God!

The usual answer to this question is either EF-S 17-55 if you want fast - or EF-S 15-85 if you're prepared to sacrifice fast for a more versatile range. Both are excellent.
Many people say that the 24-105L is not ideal on a crop-frame camera as they find 24mm not wide enough - since you have the wide end covered already with your 10-20, I'd be favouring the 24-105L in your situation.

17-55 attracts many positive comments, never used one but it does have IS so should be usable wide open in low light.
Sigma and Tamron have 17-50s with IS (or whatever they call it) too.
As an alternative you could look at the 24-70 f2.8 L. Downsides are it has no IS and is heavy (nearly 1kg!).
24-105 might only be f4 but it does have IS and the reach you want and is probably the closest to the 28-135 with regards to range. I wouldn't worry about it being too tight, you've got the 10-20 to do the big stuff.
Off the wall suggestion but based on the low light requirement how about a mix n match of a couple of prime lenses ? All USM I think (bar the 24mm)

Well, followed some of the advice on here and on POTN, plus I read a few online reviews and decided to go for the EFS 17-55mm f2.8 IS USM. Bought from warehouseexpress.com yesterday (along with the lens hood - another £28!!!) and they arrived this morning.
Only taken the lens out the box and put it on the camera to check everything was working okay, not taken any shots with it yet.
Hopefully it'll be the lens I was looking for, otherwise i'll sell it and buy the 24-105L!

I'd love this lens to finish off (are you every really finished?) my lens selection of 50mm 1.8, 60mm 2.8 and sigma 120-400. unfortunately its well out of my price range so i'm looking at (much) cheaper alternatives.
Supposed to be a top lens though so enjoy it! A friend of mine who has it is on love with it, even more so because he bought it years ago for less the £600!
