Since we've got what seems like a lot of folk who are looking to shed some weight and get fitter why not have a competition to see who could make the biggest difference in say 3 months.

I wouldn't consider it too serious just a way for folk to motivate each other and help each other to get to a goal and share their experiences a long the way?

I personally believe one of the key things to moving to a new place in fitness/health is goals.

Thoughts?

I only clicked "not sure" because someone going from 14 stones to 13 is less impressive than someone going from 20 to 16.

But do we have a Fitclub thread? (Or was that on another forum?) Could state our goal then what we've done in terms of training and what we now weigh of the format:

Goal Summary: xxx
Update/Comments: yyy
Result: zzz

I think the idea was we could just help each other along, there should be some sort of prize at the end of it but you know with competitions like these the folk who have the most to lose will undoubtedly have a massive advantage but that isn't the point really, its just about the journey.

Just an idea!

I'd join, my competitive side would really help me try to lose that last bit of weight.

I'm in.

As it's a fitness competition, perhaps set some parameters for us all to stick by?

For instance

Goal Start Current Goal Remaining
2000m row 00:08:15 00:07:56 00:06:56 00:01:00
Weight loss 89kg 76kg 73kg 3kg
Marathon
Bench press
24" Bicep challenge
etc

Just a simple visual for us all?

Not saying that's exactly how it should be done, but it's a way of recording different fitness targets, be it weight loss, BF%, BMI etc?

Then do bite sized time frames? Say check in on the last working day of each month?

Or have leaderboards? Or something else different entirely hehe

Just some thoughts

Easier to do it the way I suggested above as no need for buggering around with tables which may confuse some and lead to stray tags. smile

Sorry, I left my post open ages before putting anything in, didn't see your post.

14st to 13st isn't necessarily more impressive than 20st to 16st, I lost 2 stone easily, losing the last 7lbs never happened, even though I continued as was.

Never mind that though.

Any loss in weight or improvement in fitness is a good thing.

As you were though.

I voted yes but thought the thread was as say the title fitness competition, cross fit or something, can hold it in my gym if people are up for it.

Sorry I could have done much better with the thread title.

I was thinking along the lines of who can make the most dramatic change to their shape.

Thanks for the offer 996! Anyway its all up for debate about the competition criteria.

Hey no great idea, another reason to train is good enough.

I`m in! As you know in another thread I started dieting/life-style changing on Monday. My start weight is 19st 4lbs. I`ve not exercised yet due to work commitments and I`ll be honest getting round to going to the gym and joining!

I`m off to Delamere forest in the morning mountain-biking so there`s a start.

Would it be better to show our start weight, Body Fat % etc. Divide the starting weight with the end weight and take that percentage of as the score. The one with the biggest percentage of weight loss is the winner.

I don`t think it`s worth putting a prize up as it`d be difficult to truthfully judge the winner. Or am I wrong??

Either way I`m well up for it!
I`ve had 5 days of cutting down already, so I`ll either finish 5 days early than the end date or we can start tomorrow and I`ll weigh myself again.

On your scales boys!

Cerberaperv 19st 4lbs 35% Body Fat (not BMI. Measured on elec scales)
next???.............................

Agreed, I think using the 'law of diminishing returns' idea is erroneous in this context.

The 14 stone person has to make the dietary or training sacrifices to get a net effect of negative c.49000 calories - hard enough, but the 20 stoner has to cause the body to 'give up' c.196000 - a far bigger sacrifice.

I can read perfectly well thanks, but didn't read your post before responding to dirty boy - and agreed with the premise I read in his, therefore assuming you had claimed it was. Sorry it wounded you so much.

It just left me very confused and I had to read his post a few times.

However, a cheeky fiver on Frog Dog (Barry Atricks), Cerberaperv or Funk for the win, providing they stick to it.

Personally, I found it far easier & quicker to get down from @ 20st to 17.5 than from 17.5 to current nibble over 16.

Aiming for @ 15 by Christmas and suspect there will be some hard yards ahead (as someone who doesn't really do gyms).

Yep, but I think on PH we're slightly more grown up so posters won't be looking for "well done" and "congrats" messages just to boost their egos.

Also, things tend to be more sensible in this section of the forum.

If we look at the other thread about today's training, I don't think anyone's been posting ludicrous claims when other posts in other parts of the forum contradict their apparently healthy lifestyle. smile
