Amusing iPhone/Flickr graph

These graphs show the number of Flickr members who have uploaded at least one photo or video with a particular camera on a given day over the last year.
The graphs are "normalized", which is a fancy way of saying that they automatically correct for the fact that more people join Flickr each day: the graph moving up or down indicates a change in the camera's popularity relative to all other cameras used by Flickr members.
The graphs are only accurate to the extent that we can automatically detect the camera used to take the photo or shoot the video (about 2/3rds of the time). That is not usually possible with cameraphones, therefore they are under-represented.

Today's iphone4 curve has a slightly different trajectory

Yes I understand what the graphs mean, but I am wondering of what importance that metric is to anyone. They are comparing a phone with such cameras as a 5D. Apples and oranges.
It's like Toyota showing the same graph, but including Zondas, Ferraris and Porsches.
They're saying that the iPhone4 is used just as much/more than cameras, and so people DO use the camera on their phone. It's like Toyota showing the same graph, but including Zondas, Ferraris and Porsches.
They've just uprated the camera to 8mp, so I guess they're just trying to show that as people use the camera, they've made it better.

That's fair enough, but I still don't understand why they chose to show it against some proper bits of kit which are used for completely different purposes.
I would have thought that was obvious. It's ego-pumping misinformation so the hard-of-thinking audience can go 'Woooo, cool!'rxtx said:

They didn't chose which cameras to compare it with. They just showed the top 5 devices by number of pictures taken. To compare with other - from our perspective more comparible devices, they would have had to manipulate the graph

? It's like saying more people buy fiestas than Zondas, I'm not sure how you can't understand that, seems simple to me- the iPhone is more popular in terms of the number of people that use it compared to "proper cameras".
That wasn't my point at all though, and I never said I didn't understand what the graph represented. All I was asking was, what is the relevence of that information? The metric is completely useless.fadeaway said:

They didn't compare devices with the total number of pictures taken though

D90, 66,918,045
iPhone 4, 16,105,135
Still, it's all irrelevant and wasn't my point.
