Hey guys, I posted this in the 'Jobs' forum, but was told it was more suitable to here....

Evening fellow PHer's...this is one for the guys working Offshore.

A bit of background info on myself...I left school at 16 and went to study Engineering at college, I started my own company in my spare time, which ended up taking over and I dropped out of college, once I got my HNC.

At 18 I then decided to apply for Engineering jobs...I got in with a large Civil Engineering firm, after much discussions with my seniors it was evident that I was more suited to the commercial side of things, so I was then put through uni (day release) doing Quantity Surveying.

I'm now 22 with a QS degree and 4 years experience, working on projects ranging from £1.5M upto £25M, all over the country.

I now fancy a change....I have always wanted to work offshore, but never known the best way to go about it, or even if my experience has any relevance?

Is there any work offshore that is commercially angled....or is it all engineering based (drillers ect...)

Anyone who has any advice on where I should be applying or what sort of jobs I should be going for, it would be much apreciated.

Regards,

J

Join the club mate,

Spent 4 years to become a tiffy, to be released from work and then spent £3000 to get all the qualifications, BOSEIT, MIST, COMPEX and im told i don't get a interview because i don't have oil and gas experiance, how am i to get it, if i can't get a job. The pressure transmittor still works the same way. But instead of a chemical its oil flowing down it.

ALl i can suggest is look at oil companies in the north sea, look at jobs that you could go for. Or send your CV away and say your willing do to something your experiance and qualifications allow. You might have to do Offshore Survival course and MIST before you get a job, thats £1000 in aberdeen.

Try oilcareers.com for sure, take the time to upload your c.v as well and agencies will eventually find you. Otherwise just search for jobs there. You will be a small fish in a very big sea, don't expect it to all happen overnight.

Try Subsea 7, they are taking on people with no, or out of oil industry experience and training them up to meet a big shortfall in staff numbers.
